if you see the list of required documents for combo card while I-485 is pending, a copy of passport is not required.

Even if it's not required, why are you not listening to your lawyer? Obviously you need your passport to teavel. It's not a big deal, just get your passport.

@William U I have already applied for it, and it is in process, but things take time. Every country has its own processing time, and each step is full of bribes, especially in a country like India. I wanted to be assured if this is a mandatory condition for renewal, because my passport is going to take some more time.

@Vawa 2022 applicant Yeah you can apply on your own. Since your employment authorization is expiring very soon, you can try filing I-765 online. The USCIS website will guide you through necessary steps and it can be done pretty quick. For advance parole application (I-131), it must be filed by mail and you can do it later.
