I have never paid to renew my EAD. I got 2 throughout my whole process

you can renew it 180 before expiration date. if you have fees vaiwed when you filed wholw package, then you have to pay fee for renewal, if you paid fees when you files the first time, then you don't have to pay anything

EAD renewal is free and send your application 6 months to expiration
