Changing surname on passport ?
So im currently waiting for my I-130 to be approved. Think im at 180 days or something.
I was just wondering if me taking my spouses surname is something that is required? My wife is a US citizen and I’m a Latvian citizen living in the UK. I would change my surname however the process of doing so, takes a long time. I was wondering if my I-130 case would even be effected if I do change it. would the person viewing my I-130 case think it’s not a bonifide case if I haven’t changed my surname yet? or even delay the case if I do change it.
ideally I would rather not change it until I immigrate to the states however if it’s something that’s best done now then I’ll do it.
I just don’t know how it’ll effect my case if I do or don’t.
anybody not change their surname ? what was your experience?

@Pretty Patient why can’t I change my name there? I’m sure there is Latvian embassy’s in the states too right?

@Pretty Patient yes but I wouldn’t be a citizen, only a green card holder so I would have to contact the embassy (wherever it is located in the states)

@Pretty Patient so will I be fine not changing my surname? I’ve already started the I-130 a while back and obviously both legal names are on there. i just don’t wanna not change my name now and then regret it later because the visa was denied or delayed
