Case Remain Pending
I got married with a Green Card Holder back in July 2022. my priority date is August 2022.
my I-130 interview was in May and approved in June. My I -485 status is “We are temporarily pausing work on your application because an immigrant visa number is not immediately available to you. Once an immigrant visa number becomes immediately available to you, we will resume processing of your application.” In July 2023 my wife became a US citizen and I realize just now that they are processing my I-485 as GC not US citizen, so I sent a notification to immigration to ask to upgrade my petition. Does anyone here experience the same?

What happen to the application of a green card holder to a spouse's application when during the application, the spouse became naturalized?

If a green card holder becomes a U.S. citizen during the processing of their spouse's application for a green card, the process typically becomes faster. The application is upgraded from the family second preference (F2A) category (spouses of green card holders) to the immediate relative category (spouses of U.S. citizens). Immediate relatives are not subject to numerical limits or annual quotas, which can significantly shorten the waiting time for visa availability.
The following steps are usually involved:
Notification of Status Change: The U.S. citizen should notify the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) of their naturalization. This can be done by contacting the USCIS National Customer Service Center or by sending a letter to the USCIS office handling the case.
Upgrading the Petition: Once USCIS is notified and confirms the naturalization, the spouse's application will be upgraded to the immediate relative category. This change in category will eliminate the waiting time associated with the F2A category.
Processing Time: The overall processing time for the green card application will typically be reduced. Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens do not need to wait for a visa number to become available, which speeds up the process.
Interview and Approval: The process continues with the necessary steps, such as background checks, interviews, and medical exams, leading to the final approval of the green card.
