case on pause
My priority date is current. I submitted my I-485 forms in October 2024 and received the combo card in June. Recently, my case status was updated to “Visa number is not available; we will resume processing when it becomes available.” I understand visa numbers will become available tomorrow. When can I expect to receive my approval? I’m planning to change jobs and am concerned about using my work permit before the approval.

I don’t know, hope others can answer your question. I just think that it is too risky these days to use your EAD card in other than part time jobs.

I submitted my form on August 2024. I have the similar status. Also I received an mail from local office that they mentioned we transfered your case to NBC as visa is not available. I hope in October something happens to our cases.

Thank you for your responses.
I did not get any emails. the case is already in NBC. they just updated my status.

@Mohammad Ebi I am in Similer situation, my file transferred from non local FO TO NBC , status was updated to visa number not available, we will resume when numbers available
why it moved to NBC ? is it good sign ?

does not mean its current equates to approval. There are a lot of variables to consider. I was current for 6 months before my approval so it really depends.

@Kevin 123 I am optimistic. Based on the mail I received, I got the impression that the officer wanted to approve my case, but due to visa unavailability, he or she could not, and instead decided to forward it to the NBC. Typically, EB applications are approved at the local office rather than at the main centers. My belief is that these cases were already approved by the officers, but the applications were sent to NBC, which will issue the final approval later. In my case, for example, the file stayed at NBC for 7.5 months, then spent 5 months at the local Phoenix office, 1 month at the local Dallas office, and is now back at NBC. I don’t think my case requires an interview, because if it did, it should have been transferred to my local office. Similarly, if the case were to be denied, that decision would have been issued by the Dallas office.

@Elie Rad what is the exact status it was updated?
Elie RadOct 1, 2025
@Mohammad Ebi I agree with you. I think when the visa numbers are avaliable we will be approved. how did you check the movement of your case between offices?
Elie RadOct 1, 2025
@Kevin 123 this is the exact status
Visa Bulletin Not Current Or Case Held In Abeyance
We are temporarily pausing work on your application because an immigrant visa number is not immediately available to you. Once an immigrant visa number becomes immediately available to you, we will resume processing of your application.
PLEASE NOTE: In the event that you have submitted a valid transfer of underlying basis request, then this Case Status Online message does not mean that USCIS has paused work on your application. Our systems do not currently have the capability to automatically update the receipt of a transfer of underlying basis request or Supplement J at this time. The message will be updated in Case Status Online, however, after USCIS takes some other action on the adjustment of status application (for example, issuing a request for evidence, transferring the application between offices, or approving the application).
For more information, please see the Fiscal Year 2023 Employment-Based Adjustment of Status FAQs page.

@Kevin 123 how did you know about your file moving from FO To NBC??
Mohammad EbiOct 1, 2025
@Elie Rad I could get the updates from EMMA, and for the last one FO of Dallas sent a mail to me.
Kevin 123Oct 1, 2025
I checked with Emma @Elie Rad
Elie RadOct 1, 2025
Emma will provide the details or I have to talk to an agent through Emma?
Mohammad EbiOct 1, 2025
@Elie Rad you should chat with live agent through emma. Also you should try multiple times with agents as in many cases the agents do not give you the last update to you.
Elie RadOct 1, 2025
@Mohammad Ebi @Kevin 123 I checked with Emma live agent and he said it was transfered to MINN-ST PAUL FIELD OFFICE, which is not a local office, is it a good or a bad sign
Mohammad EbiOct 1, 2025
@Elie Rad It is good, generally EB applications should be transferred to local office. As it is not your local office most probably the interview is waived, and you will get approval soon.
Elie RadOct 2, 2025
@Mohammad Ebi Thank you. Hopefully we will get the approval soon
Kevin 123Oct 9, 2025

Elie RadOct 9, 2025
@Kevin 123 No, what about you?
Kevin 123Oct 9, 2025
