Being denied entry to US with a greencard
Hi everyone,
I have been reading many posts about people being afraid of leaving the US and coming back and being denied entry or being detained and deported. I know the border agents have the right to deny entry and a greencard does not mean that you are not inadmissible to the US. There are very clear reasons that a person can become inadmissible. I am talking about things outside of the obvious.
I went down a 4 hour rabbit hole tonight of reading articles. I do feel there is a lot of fear mongering happening and things can be told in away that supports a narrative. My husband is a lawyer (not immigration) and also feels so much of what is in the news is false or misleading. News is a business and scaring people sells.
I would really like to hear from people who have either had problems crossing or directly knows someone. Not through a story on the news. There are a handful of cases that I read about in the news about being denied and detained but only a couple were regarding people with a greencard.
Wishing everyone the best

Had no issues crossing the border on April for two weeks and returning back. if you stay more than 6mo or have criminal issues, I would assume there would be more scrutiny and etc but if you normal person just visiting family or leisure travel I would not expect any issue based on my recent travel experience. I know friends who stayed much even longer and had no issues so business as usual.

it's all fear mongering. they know exactly who they're looking for- people with felonies and people who stay out of the country for extended periods. I've been out of the country 3 times since the new administration and I've never been asked anything, I always get greeted with "welcome home".

@Kingsley B Do you think traveling on Emergency parole is safe?
Kingsley BJun 22, 2025
@Annie k Hi, I traveled with an emergency parole last June. What you need to look at for yourself, is if you are inadmissible to the US. Did you have major immigration violations in the past or some other reasons to deny entry. The parole does not mean that you can automatically reenter the US. USCIS and border guards are separate and the border guard has final say. I was terrified to use my parole but I was okay. I would advise people who let’s say were in removal proceedings prior to getting the parole to be carful and only go if needed.
When you actually have a greencard, you have rights that you did not have while using a parole. I hope at makes sense. I have learned so much about immigration law. My husband is a lawyer and we are hiring a new layer at office to do immigration law. Looking forward to being able to maybe help people on this app get some answers. I won’t charge people or anything, just try to help others.

@Kingsley B did you return to which airport?
Kingsley BJun 22, 2025
@Adam Redding I have only crossed my land with my parole and greencard. I have crossed in Detroit and Sault Saint Marie.

@Mike Raphone I agree, I think they are looking for specific people. I think there have always been border guards that abuse their powers but that has always been an issue. There were 2 people in the news that concerned me but they both had criminal charges after getting their green cards. I am happy you have had no problems.

@Kingsley B I don’t have any criminal or any kind of removal proceedings. I married to my husband and I let it go my f1 student visa right before I got married to my husband who is us citizen. I wanted to travel back in August so I hope overstay doesn’t matter.

I have returned with a conditional green card in May after being gone for 2 weeks - zero problems at customs

@Annie k If you have an overstay but you are a relative of a US citizen then it is forgiven. Relatives of US citizens are forgiven for overstays and working without authorization.
