Asylum Granted, I-485 Pending — Can I Get a New SSN Card and REAL ID?
Hi everyone,
I’m in New York. My asylum case was approved in 2024 by USCIS, I have an A5 EAD card, and my asylum-based I-485 is still pending.
Has anyone in a similar situation successfully:
• Replaced their Social Security card to remove the work restriction?
• Obtained a New York REAL ID before receiving their green card?
I’d appreciate any experience and information on what documents were accepted.

You have to visit near Social Office to update your social, You will get new social with No Restrictions. About real ID, You can go and apply it with current SSN also, Np. Did you applied for I-485 ? When ?

yes to both… you can go with your A5 working permit and social security will update your information and send you a new one. Do the same and use EAD at the DMV
