Asylum EAD and F1 OPT
Hello everyone,
I need your response on this. I am an F1 student and will be graduating this December 2024. I have an EAD through Asylum already. As an F1 student, do I still need to apply for OPT EAD? What will happen if I apply for OPT EAD? Will they cancel one of them or not?
Mind you, OPT EAD is for 3 years (STEM) and Asylum EAD is for 5 years. I applied for the Asylum EAD renewal and will be receiving it in November 2024.

Is ur asylum case still pending or approved? If it is approved already, then u dont need the F1 or OPT status anymore cuz ur asylum status gives u unrestricted rights to work in America

I heard that when you use the EAD card from Asylum it automatically cancels your F-1 . I am in the same situation and my lawyer recommended to not use asylum. case has been pendi by for like 4 years and have not heard anything. f-1 gives you the opportunity to get a sponsorship thru work while asylum does not ( you wait indefinitely and cannot get out of the country)
