my experience at Texas. I tried using the I797 of I485 and the office said me that he cannot accepted because it was a copy (it was the original one from USCiS). after 10 minutes arguing, he finally used my passport to verify my lawful status with DHS. after 2 weeks a got a mail form DHS saying that I am completely legal at USA. I used that letter to renew mi DL. my advice, attend with you passport, I797, etc and try. maybe they will send you case to a second verification like my case

thank you @pepito please did have a work permit or social security no already. I don’t have a work permit or social security no yet. Can I take my i485 and i765 original receipt, then my passport with my present drivers license to the driving license office? My present license expires by ending of October and so does my i120.

@P O, at least in Texas, you don't need a SSN to get se DL. I have it, but not my wife and she got the DL too. And I don't have an EAD card yet. I am just under OAS, not another visa now

@pepito, how did you get a letter from DHS saying you are legal?

@P D, Twxas DMV Sent my case to DHS using my passport info and fingerprints. that was the only solution that the officer offered me and works!!!
