you don't need fbi report. to get the work permit or AP , you need to do your biometrics first which takes about 6 months. I still recommend that you use a lawyer to avoid mistakes and delays.

about the advance parole be careful if you will use, every case is diferentt, fbi around 1-2 months after apply. btw YouTube have a lot videos about vawa. good luck.

filing vawa pro se is difficult but doable. google pro bono immigration agencies in your area have a sit down and have them help draft your letter. if you have a police report, hospitalization due to DV or pictures/ texts/or any other communication that would be ideal if the abuse is more emotional make sure to see a licensed psychiatrist (who deals with immigration) and get evaluated and have them write that letter to USCIS it goes a long way. also gather any proof to show your marriage was bonafide (rental agreement with both your names, bank accounts, IRA with them as the beneficiary, bills together, insurance card (health goes even further) that should take care of both the abuse and bona fide marriage if you have an approved I-130 include a copy as well, then find a few friends or relative who can vouch for your good moral character and if they can attest to have witnessed the abuse even better have those letter notarized (your bank will do it for free or go to UPS they do charge though) then get to the USCIS website and review all what you need to file your Vawa. also include police report (local police for any city/county you have lived in and you can get the fbi done as well (make sure you google the correct immigration code for fingerprints as well) once you have all your docs and proof and letters then you can mail make sure to mail tot he correct address. you can also gather everything then ask for a consultation with an attorney and have them review your work at least it won’t cost you 14k or the probono immigration lawyers.

@harwi khaira your congressman office can also file for you for free. They're not just for inquiries. Or do as @blessed & favored recommended. Gather everything and then get a consult with a lawyer. Won't cost 8k or 14k for that. You also don't need a psych evaluation unless you've already been seeing a therapist. Uscis will disregard any evidence that did not originate before you claim abuse, according to my lawyer, and it makes sense to me too. Just get the ball rolling because you're in for at least a 3 year wait at this point

the safest way to go if you are filling vawa is to get a lawyer that form they don’t recommend you doing it on your own.
