AOS approval should always be FIFO!
Just a weekend rant! It is inhuman to not have AOS FIFO. It defeats the entire purpose of people doing the waiting game. Although I am happy to see approvals, it is so demotivating to see newer cases being approved whereas older cases are eating dust. Waiting and approval times should be normalized across FOs. AOS should always and always be FIFO.

Is the current process random or based on Priority Date, if not Filing Date?
Mr GreenJan 8, 2024
what the heck is FIFO?

@Perm Perm Queue based. First In First Out. What he meant is people who applied much earlier and current are waiting and folks who applied few month back are getting approved.

I am observing folks who applied in June 2023 got approved in October 2023 within 3-4 months and many others are waiting since 2022 or before even though they have been current throughout.

@S B There should have been a arithmetic equation which factors in all of these like PD, filing date, several other factors like country quota etc and based on these it should calculate a value between 0 to 1. If the value is close to 1, they should press the approve button for that applicant. I am sure this process is highly automated and something like this perhaps happening but whether it is strictly being followed I am not sure. Imagine if someone’s priority date in 2010 let’s say but his filing date is let’s say 2023, the equation should give him close to 1 because this gentleman already waited for 14 years. It’s being fair to him because he has already waited for 14 years.

@S B I have a feeling the automation system already has an in-built fairness algorithm.

@Raj S - I could understand. but it my opinion that the recent approvals are ROW - and not India - isn’t that not the case ? what have you seen ?
hello markJan 8, 2024
The truth of the matter is the current system is not built to do FIFO when the number of applications is so much and there aren't enough staff. factors to conside include date being current then retrogress and current again, change of employer, upgrade and downgrade and possibly upgrade again. derivative petition, medical expires RFE ,has the applicant main status from F-1, H-1B,CPT, OPT etc, interview if needed. The I-485 been on paper so when the case gets transferred is actually physical transferred to another service, center. All this plus if the 140k GC not use we lose it. So they are of the view approve as much as case possible as quickly as possible. which the newer cases are easier to approve because they are fresher less history case file isn't thick and complex.

can you have FIFO in a distributed system?
Raj SJan 8, 2024
Thanks everyone for chiming in. obviously this was a rant. I am sure we all share frustration at different levels. I agree with @hello mark, this is a complex system, and whatever happens, there will always be some level of inefficiency. Is it possible to improve the system using tech? Yes. But, there is a good amount of staffing and funding needed to implement this. For now, the waiting game continues :)

@Raj S I definitely hear your frustration….. I’m honestly happy for the people approved quickly but at the same time frustrated with my TL (EB1C and current since day 1, ROW). I have the feeling that TSC is the worse by far regarding FIFO.

@S SS I am in the same boat. PD 2010, EB3 India. Filed 131,765,485 in June 2023 (Texas). medicals sent with application. Biometrics done in July 2023. Got EAD (not combo) in September 2023. Case transfer to NBC on December 26th. Friends tell me any day now. Lawyers tell me 18-24 months. No idea what to think. So frustrating
