Annulment of marriage after VAWA was Approved
What is the effect of marriage annulment on citizenship? My i360 (VAWA) has been approved and I am looking forward to my GC. My abuser want to have marriage annulment instead of divorce. Can this affect my GC or Citizenship in nearest future? Experienced people should pls advise.

the abuser can try but annulment it’s not as easy as they think. it has to have concrete reason to annul. make sure you have a lot of evidence that you marriage was genuine and legit

annulment legaly indicates that the marriage was not real or did not exist. go for a divorce. being approved doesn't mean that uscis cannot rescind that decision. they can also strip you citizenship. I would divorce if was me.

a marriage can only be filed within 30 days of the marriage anything after that has to be done by a divorce so a annulment is not an option if your marriage is over 30 days

@kimmy what are you even saying? different states have different laws and statute regarding to annulment. I’m say South Dakota one can annul a marriage after 4 years lol

If you annulled that means your marriage never existed and might cost you your i360 approval since you don’t have GC in hand yet. So rather file yourself for a divorce than letting him annul it

Thanks to everyone that commented on this post. Your contributions add to my experience but to share lawyer point of view, I was made to understand the fact that marriage have no part to play again In VAWA once the i360 has been approved. whatever come from abuser after that add to the case that I am really abused. whether by annulment or divorce marriage must come to an end. But I am going by advise from this forum by intiate divorce before my abuse come over with annulment document and if does earlier than mine, I will not sign it.
