I also have advanced parole through VAWA. I spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica in July, not my home country. Came back through JFK. I was asked the reason for my trip and I said that it was for my mother’s 70th birthday. they sent me to secondary inspection, which is to be expected. waited there 10 mins and he asked me a few questions. don’t get nervous, just answer straight and correctly. After I answered, he stamped my passport and I walked out. I say go ahead and be calm and cautious when returning.

my advice is you should travel if only it’s emergency. Health issue is emergency bcos if one passes, one gat no use for VAWA & Green Card Approval as Dead don’t need documentation any longer. However , if it’s not emergency, remain here in the states bcos Advance Parole is 50/50 chance

I traveled twice in the last 3 months, no problems at all, I would suggest you to travel as that what adv parole is meant for.

@Maka Maka if you have a pending asylum don’t go , pending asylum means that you have a removal procedure ! I request many times my AP and all got denied because I have the pending asylum and my lawyer told me to cancel first ! that’s what I did! I cancel it 3 years ago and I got the approval last year after that I traveled to my home country …

@Rosa Alme - I already have AP through Vawa and also pending asylum( affirmative, no court. I even got travel doc in 2024 through pending asylum- expired now , never travelled) So you are saying asulym should be cancelled first before travelling? Also was your Vawa or AP was approved after cancelling your pending asylum?

my AP was approved after I cancel it but my vawa still pending! I have a friend who was just like you he has asylum and he got his AP approved but he never travel outside country his Lawer told him not to go and like 5 months ago they approved his vawa and now he’s trying to cancel his asylum.

no need to worry if you have a clean background my first time it was almost hours question in the secondary room but nothing about my vawa only about my trip second time they just stamped my passeport with no question only good day by the officier everything was in jfk I was traveling to ouest Africa and I just renew my cambo card I got for 5 years preparing to go back again good luck to us 😇
