I traveled many times like a lot of people here. I think you can travel fo 3-4 weeks max without any issue if you don’t have a criminal record

South Africa isn't one of the band countries. I'm from South Africa too but im still scared to travel because one never knows.

I traveled to Nigeria in March 2025 using Delta that flew direct. Then in December 2025 and returned Feb 2026 through Qatar. Not all officials know the AP but they take it still and do whatever it is they do on their system and let you pass. As long as your document is authentic, you'll go through, irrespective of the country. I've also seen people travel to different parts of Europe and to Australia with their AP. So, SA can't be any different.

@Ivan b that's not true. You can be away for upto 6 months. I stayed for 8 weeks from December, 2025 to February 2026.... Note my country is on both the 39 and "seventy whatever" list. I came in through JFK, didn't stay more than 20 mins at secondary inspection. The immigration staff only said he needed to confirm my current address and phone number.... probably because I've changed addresses on my case before. Then fingerprinting was done and photo taken, and I was sent on my merry way. That was my second time traveling with my AP. During the first time, I was asked the name of my abuser, DOB, brief explanation of what happened. Also, to put things into perspective, I overstayed my visa by 3 years, but was never in removal, never committed any crime either in my home country or anywhere else, I work and pay my taxes. have once been on Medicaid before I started working. So, it's all on a case by case basis.

@Mi Maself n I wow thank you for this explanation, I have advance parole and from a partial banned country. I really want to travel for 3 weeks but I was scared. I travelled on my advanced parole back in December 2024 for 2 weeks and re entry was extremely smooth. they only asked where I went and how long I stayed.

Hi all. Have you ever haf a problem while traveling domestic flights to other states with combo card/ID ? Is that true that ice is catching ppl still at airports ?

@Lucky Lucky that's not true. However, to play it safe, get yourself a Real ID, that way you use it to ID yourself while flying domestic and won't have need to bring out the combo card.

@Mi Maself n I Dmv didn’t give me real ID ,I tried last year. They said for pending cases we don’t provide and I was surprised because asylum case holders even getting real ID approved . They don’t wanna even explain.I brought them all my papers though. This way I can fly only with IF and combo card and avoiding travels

@Ivan b I did looked up Turkish and Swiss they connect in Germany and Dubai.Do I need visas for those countries also even if I am not leaving the airport?

@Lucky Lucky it depends on the officer you meet. I went to get mine anf my children’s yesterday. The staff member that did my 1st son's learner's permit said he couldn't get due to pending I-485. I argued with her that it wasn't trye because i did document check online and was told he qualified for a Real ID. But she was adamant and asked another colleague who also said the same thing. Luckily for me and my younger child. we were sent upstairs to TVB for ours to be processed. and luckily, the lady there knew what to do. So. it really depends on who you meet.
