485J $2500+ fedex $100????!
Hello,
The company that sponsored my EB3 unskilled position has closed down, so I had to change jobs. My priority date is September 21, 2021, so if the visa bulletin moves forward just two more months, it will become current. I’ve already found a new employer, but the attorney (based in LA) said that while the I-485J filing fee is currently free, their legal fee is $2,500.
In addition, the FedEx fee used to be $50 until the end of last December, then it increased to $80 this June (for sending an RFE), and now they’re asking for $100 this time. It feels like the attorney’s fee might be a bit excessive, so I wanted to ask if you know what the typical fee range is.
Would it be appropriate to ask for a fee adjustment? If so, I’d really appreciate any ideas on how to persuade them or what kind of reasoning might sound convincing.

Most lawyers will charge around a similar amount for an I-485 filing (not sure if the J makes a difference in pricing). Regarding FedEx, it’s very likely the lawyer opts for overnight delivery or the fastest shipping method

From what I know, (do double check) I485J is a very simple form, and doesnt need anything else (or as much) like regular i485 does. And you’re not even required to submit it right away, you can wait till USCIS asks you via RFE or take during interview If that even happens. Plus, you must’ve filled it out before with your original i485. So just use that copy to fill it out, and get your new employer to sign and keep it with you. That cost is not worth it at all for i485J.

I agree with the previous form. 485J is a simple form to fill out. However, if you fill more confident using a lawyer, then maybe you can continue to shop around for a fee you are more comfortable to pay.

I meant to say I agree with the previous comment :)
