24.5 months
It’s been 20 months since I applied my green card, I called my lawyer yesterday he said just wait patiently no need to file WOM, and I just checked the processing time for Asylum based GC application this morning and 80% of cases are completed within 24.5 months now, just insane:(

I don’t understand why such a simple application keeps getting delayed again and again.
I feel completely stuck here now.
My fiancée is still waiting for me back home so we can get married. I was also planning to enlist in the military here so I could bring her over faster.
Now all of my plans have been completely disrupted.
The processing time has already gone from 20.5 months to 24.5 months, and it could even go up to 30.5 months.
This is just crazy.

Asylum-based adjustment of status cases are adjudicated on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed within published processing time ranges, which are only statistical estimates (e.g., “80% of cases completed within 24.5 months”) rather than binding deadlines. USCIS processing times reflect historical averages and can be affected by background checks, interview scheduling, security vetting, and field office workload, meaning individual cases may fall outside the posted range without indicating an issue.
At 20 months pending, your case is still within a normal adjudication window when compared to published USCIS ranges, and there is no automatic legal basis for a mandamus (Writ of Mandamus) unless delay becomes “unreasonable” under federal administrative law standards. Which your case does not yet meet. USCIS may also extend processing where security or eligibility checks are pending, which is a common cause of delays in asylum-based green card cases. Practically, “wait and monitor” is my recommendation unless the case significantly exceeds posted timelines or shows no movement for an extended period beyond normal processing variation.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them in our next Lawfully office hours session!
