Yemeni Citizen - Djibouti Embassy
Just figured I’ll make this post to help others who are in similar situations understand a little how the process was, at least for us.
USCIS took exactly a year (365 days) to get the approval.
NVC DQ’d the first week of October.
NVC appointment e-mail first week of February. (Tried to expedite multiple times but got denied each time.)
Interview date around the last week of March.
We arrived in Djibouti about 10 days before the interview and that was more than enough time to get the medical done and get situated. (Just in case people wanted to know. The medical cost us about $400)
The interview I guess was simple. They checked that we had all the paperwork that we uploaded to NVC and we brought additional evidence such as money transfers, chat logs, pictures, etc.
Got the approval and received the visa about 4 days after the interview date.
Couple things I wanted to note is, %99 of the people that were there to do their visa interviews and getting the visas were Yemeni, unfortunately though, most of them really didn’t know how to listen to instructions. Honestly, it was like a zoo just to obey simple instructions such as forming a line and not crowding next to the door or window. Or people that just arrived cutting the line and standing in front. Seriously it was embarrassing. That caused delays in us getting inside the Embassy to do our interviews, as if that isn’t stressful enough.
Anyways, I will try to answer some questions you guys might have if I can and I hope this helped a little.

Nasser HAug 7, 2023
give us some of the questions they asked you please
Adel JAug 7, 2023
@Ali Ali almost 5 months after getting DQ’d we got the interview date.
There is no specific date we did a western union transfer once a month.
Adel JAug 7, 2023
@Nasser Hdwan I just gathered all the pictures I thought were “important” life moments we had together. In total I think I had 20 pictures but as I said that number is just random and I just picked good quality pictures.
Adel JAug 7, 2023
The questions they asked was how long have we been together, what’s your spouse occupation/job, where does he live and thats it.
Ahlam omarAug 7, 2023
what is your prioty date

Hi Adel, thank you for the detailed information. May I ask how you were able to go to the Djibouti embassy? Did you have to transfer your case? Were you asked for a residency ID? I’d appreciate your response on this as I’m planning to transfer our case to Djibouti.
adibo ahmAug 8, 2023
how many agents do the interview? i heard they are 3 ?
Ahmed AAug 8, 2023
thanks again for helping information
my question is do I have to upload DS5535 through the website?
Adel JAug 8, 2023
@Qeyo Babi Because the applicant is a Yemeni citizen they automatically assigned us to the Djibouti embassy so we didn’t do anything ourselves to be assigned to that embassy. So, if in your case your applicant is Yemeni as well then all you need is to send a message through the NVC inquiry form that you want to transfer your case to Djibouti and they should be able to do it without any proofs because that’s the embassy Yemeni’s are assigned to due to us not having an embassy back home.
Adel JAug 8, 2023
@abgil ahm in our case only 2 people we dealt with. The first window they basically checked that we had all the necessary paperwork and the second “interview” was the main interview.
Adel JAug 8, 2023
@Ahmed A no, don’t upload the DS5535 before the interview. What we did was we printed the form and filled it out and took it with us to the interview, but they never asked for it so we didn’t give it to them.
Adel JAug 8, 2023
@Ahmed A so just bring it with you filled out but don’t hand it to them unless they ask for it.
Ahmed AAug 9, 2023
@Adel J Thank you so much for your help
Rose AAug 9, 2023
Adel J did they ask to see the money tranfer ? or you just brought them for additional
Adel JAug 9, 2023
@Rose A They didn’t ask for them I just brought them as additional evidence
Sam AlexAug 10, 2023
@Adel J did you go in with your spouse? are you allowed? how many questions did they ask?
Adel JAug 11, 2023
@Sam Alex Yes, you’re allowed to go in with your spouse but you have to wait in the waiting area. So during the main interview the person who is getting the visa has to do it by themselves and the US citizen has to wait in the waiting area until the interview is done. They only asked 3 questions for us which I listed in one of the comments.

@Ahmed A nothing new?

@Aladen Nasser I believe this week I'll let you know
d altarAug 13, 2023
@Adel J for the affidavit of support did you just take what you submitted on ceac or did you have to show them updated tax papers and paystubs?
d altarAug 13, 2023
@Adel J where did you do the medical exam and when should you schedule it?
Adel JAug 15, 2023
@d altar my income was enough so I brought my tax papers for the past three years, pay stubs for the last three months, and a letter from my employer stating how much I make a year.
Adel JAug 15, 2023
@d altar for the medical exam we did it at Dr. Fozia office but we had a bad experience there so I don’t necessarily recommend it just because of that. Others might have had a good experience with that office so I don’t want to say don’t go there because they were nice and everything but we had a problem with one of the nurses so we probably had bad luck.
Adel JAug 15, 2023
we scheduled it couple days before we arrived but you can schedule it the day before if you want, at least at Dr Fozia office you can. But I guess to be safe just call couple days ahead.
Aladen NasserAug 16, 2023
@Ahmed A finally bro lol
Ahmed AAug 16, 2023
@Aladen Nasser the craziest appointments periods of the history
Sara SalehAug 18, 2023
Did you need to get the Covid vaccine?
aya .Aug 19, 2023
@Sara Saleh Yes doctor ask for it during the medical exam
mohamed AhmedAug 19, 2023
@Ahmed A when did you get your appointment
Sam AlexAug 19, 2023
@Adel J
I want to know what did you bring with you to the interview. I read the email and I see that they said to bring the documents I uploaded to the NVC, but also stating to bring whoever sponsored proof of employment. Would a recent check be sufficient? Do you need to provide an update tax return for the sponsor? Since we applied in December of 2022 do we need to provide the year 2023?
The criminal background check has an expiration, right?
It’s been longer than 6 months since we did one. Do I need to do another background check?
Adel JAug 20, 2023
@Sam Alex I personally brought proof of employment plus 3 of my recent pay checks. You do need the tax transcript for the 2022 which is the latest year (we’re still in 2023 so there is not tax transcript/return for this year yet) For the criminal background I’m not sure what the timeline is for that, sorry.
Sam AlexAug 20, 2023
@Adel J
So you just brought what you uploaded to the NVC plus the checks. What else did you bring other than the proof and the pictures.
