@louis calvert So I tried renewing my passport from my country of origin at the embassy here. Since it is expired but they refused based on my pending asylum application. They can’t renew my passport here with that case pending. @louis calvert

well unfortunately I can’t go back home. so I can’t renew it in my country. Thanks though @ny usa

@louis calvert lucky you, I tried and they collected they money from me two years ago but they didn’t renew it. they said it wasn’t possible because of the pending case that’s why I have decided to cancel it

Of course you can’t renew your passport since you applied for ASYLUM in different country meaning you don’t want to live in your home country anymore. So why would they renew your passport?

@Miroslava Kurtova I need to travel and I don’t have a passport from here as my case is still pending. And even if it gets approved through vawa I will still need a passport to travel out of here.

@la la I thought those with a pending asylum case could apply for a travel document to use instead of their passport?

@Hopefully hopeful that’s only after you get approved but I have not gotten approval yet

I am not trying to go back to my country of origin. Even if I have a green card I still won’t go there @jack Y

If you’re on Asylum based on whatever reason it is you flee your home country then Refugee Travel Document is what you need not a passport renewal. It’s like a passport and can be accepted any country you go and also it’s stamped like a passport.

@Kenny Kenny, thanks for your input. I know about the travel documents, however I thought it is only given when your asylum is approved or am I wrong?

no embassy will ask ibhere or needs ur status here. when you enter into any embassy, they re already in that country’s jurisdiction so they won’t ask u anything bout USA. if I may ask, which country is this you are talking bout?

@me & you well I’m unsure about where you got that information. I personally went to the Cameroon embassy and they asked me about my status. I paid for passport two years ago. I recently called to follow up and they said I can’t get it because of my pending asylum application.

I paid s as Ms renewed mine and the Nigerian embassy didn’t ask me anything and I got it within 5days!!

@me & you you know your country accepts dual nationality so maybe that’s the reason? or maybe the workers at my embassy are just dramatic… I have no clue. thanks though

@la la you can withdraw your asylum based on your vawa application pending and while you have vawa application pending you can withdraw your asylum case unless it’s in immigration court , if you don’t have your asylum interview yet and vawa pending then yes you can withdraw your asylum and go with vawa application without any problem . you definitely need to withdraw asylum inorder travel back home so without any worry you can just withdraw your asylum and travel back home and come back . a lot of people are traveling with green card even they had previously filed asylum case .

@hope courage my asylum was in asylum office, just submitted but nothing else, now I have vawa greencard, home country situation is changed already with government falls but still people make me scare to visit home! some people say it will create problems while citizenship, some says it’s not. I am stuck in thinking stress!

@RauL Y it has no effect on your case since you got your GC through vawa not asylum ! make sure you properly withdrew your asylum case and a lot of people with asylum case got marriage based GC and happily travel back home and safely return . why so worried to travel your own land ! you can see some informative legal advice from YouTube as well where the lawyers clearly mentioned it . good luck .

@hope courage You are actually right & I saw a lots of posts about nothing to worry about it as the greencard was not based on asylum also it was just submitted in asylum office. I know my one of friend has the same situation but he visited home country without any problem, but I saw comments people saying they don’t create problem while coming back to US but while to go for citizenship. I am not finding anyone who faced the same situation & got the citizenship.

@RauL Y don’t worry just travel your home and come back and you will get your citizenship when you are eligible but make sure don’t stay more than 6 months .
