Why is Potomac so bad compared to other centers
Why is Potomac so so bad compared to every other service centers ? Potomac takes double the time of every other service center to process I751 , N400 and almost every other application . People at other centers apply a year later and get approved but Potomac is still waiting . It almost seems like Potomac center is run by anti immigration hawks who want to delay to slow down immigration . Its in DC the capital of the country so I cannot believe that they don’t have resources and people when other centers process cases in half the time . Why don’t they send half their cases to the USCIS centers with half or less than half their processing times ? Are people from certain countries and cultures specifically getting their cases in Potomac ? What exactly causes Potomac to have double delays and processing time compared to every other USCIS center ? Is it staffed by super conservative people who want to delay and slow down immigration into US ? #I751 #N400

Its very difficult to pin point the reason for the delay. I hope you can hear good news soon!

They’re super slow and they suck, I can’t comprehend why it takes them 15 months to process a damn i-130 compared to 10 months or even less at other service centers.

I think other centers also don’t take 10 months anymore … we’re at Nebraska and have been waiting for a year. so idk if it’s actually the center or just certain people getting very lucky now … good luck to everyone! it’ll be our turn next

exactly my question, why don't they just transfer some cases in service centers that aren't as "busy".

Even precovid they had a massive amount of backlogs. After covid they had to figure how to work on cases because some officers are required to be in the office while others are not. Also the communication became harder between officers because of covid. So if an officer has a question for his manager regarding an application it's not like a room away but a phone call away. Now imagine you being a manager trying to answer 20 people's questions over the phone. Generally the problem was decision on cases was slowed down let's say from 100 day to 50 a day, which led to acummulating even more backlog cases. Another thing is that officers are not required to work on cases in the order they were received but cherry pick a pile of documents and go with it, even tho not fair if your case seems to contain a lot of paper and the officer don't feel like want to go trough all of this today it will leave it for another day. Which doesn't mean you should prepare little to no evidence but exactly the opposite, prepare a good amount of evidence because it looks good and it looks convincing, we are only discussing the delay reasons and they could be many. Before covid a friend of mine waited 14 months to get his I-751 approved and 2 years later I waited a little over 19 months at Nebraska for the same form so just sit tight, we are all in the same boat. I also read in their website that the extention letters they send from now on won't be for 18 or 24 months but for 48 months, that only gives you an idea how bad they are backlogged. This could be good tho, because so many people's cases were outside normal proccessing time even after 24 months and if all those people file inquiries or lawsuites againts USCIS, officers probably wastE more time on that than actually approving pending cases. So many factors out there, they absolutely need more offices opened and hire more staff for the job because people shouldn't be waiting that long. I encourage everyone to send online applications for the cases that are approved to be filed online, they seemed to be processed a bit faster.

@ni chi - Thank you but that still does not explain why Potomac’s processing times are often double or more than double the processing times of other USCIS centers . Cant they just send a bunch of cases to another service center to reduce their processing time . California USCIS shows like 12 months and Potomac shows 26 months which is more than double . Why not send half the cases to California and have all centers at parity in terms of processing times . The huge difference in processing timelines almost makes it believe that Potomac is either run super inefficiently or there is a deliberate slowing of processing there because of certain political leaning viewpoints in the Potomac center .

Well, I don't think California center works on California residents cases unless it's n400 maybe. Every state has an assigned centers where they send cases, for example I'm from Chicago area but my case was sent to Lincoln, Nebraska. Generally I see people from California, Illinois and New York wait a lot longer than people from other states, because most applicants live in these states and volumes are high. I have a friend applied from Alaska based on marriage and got his green card 2 months after they sent in the application.
