What are the possible reasons to transfer applications (I-485 & I-130) to a field office (far from residence) after the interview has been waived? Thoughts/experiences?

I'd assume you'd definitely not have the interview now

My applications got transferred to Boston office and I live in Georgia.

@Karan L it’s mostly due to the type of case number you have (first three digits of your case number) as well as high volume of cases in your resident state’s FO. you’ll either get an RFE for medical ( if you haven’t submitted it already)or they’ll just approve it hopefully. good luck!

@Ali Syed this explanation definitely helps!! I submitted my medicals along with the initial application so, I’m good there. Hope they do approve it directly lol.. Thanks! 🙏

@Maki W yeah which is why it’s so confusing.. Read other places that if there’s no RFE required or the interview, NBC directly approves it, which is why transferring to the FO seems odd.

I wish they would transfer my case to another FO far away because my local FO average processing time is 34 months.

how can I know if my case has been transferred to a Field office?

@Karan L My case was transferred to the local FO but when I received the approval, it came from NBC, without interview. I read somewhere that the FO determines the interview being waived or not and will send it back to NBC if waived. Not 100% sure if that’s accurate but thought the info may help.

@A I that makes sense as my I-485 was being processed through MN’s FO and then transferred to Denver’s FO after citing that interview is waived. I wonder if NBC sends the approval, why they would transfer the case to another FO. What steps are pending after the interview requirement and before producing the card. Assuming what happened with you is the norm, I would assume that the Denver’s FO will be processing my I-130 as even that application got transferred to Denver (from NBC I believe). But, this would mean that my I-485 was being processed before I-130. lol
