VAWA i485
Does anybody else have a lawyer that’s taking forever to send their applications? I was told it would take 5 months for my i485 to be submitted but now it’s almost 10 months. They keep making excuses saying USCIS keeps changing the forms, well when USCIS does the forms often but it’s almost the same as previous ones & that cannot be an excuse for a delay this long.
Just wandering, is it just my lawyer or is this common experience for all of you too? Sounds like they take far more cases than they can work on & as a result they keep delaying it.

Even if forms are being changed they normally gives time before the old one is no longer available for submission….Thats no excuse

@Tina kaye Right? They give like 2/3 months more to accept the old forms.

@Noble One I did already, it has been updated in Jan third week, but it’s the mid of March now. Last time too they have had the same excuse & it was updated in October I think.

that’s a red flag right there tell your lawyer they have 24hours to submit the application or they will need to refund your money and you’ll find some other lawyer willing to do their job and make sure they send you your application for review before they submit incase they decide to subotage you or better yet find another lawyer who is willing to prioritize you. best of luck

your lawyer should submit all the form together no excuses like I-131,I-360,I-485 & I-765(EAD) ..
my lawyer did all together. talk other lawyers if possible and change him
FYI

@Kanye East I guess they are in a bind now that they have to not just submit the I-485 but it’s now merge with your medical which I think they are having difficulty to come out plain to tell you. You have to do another medical which has to be submitted alongside the I-485 in the new acceptable form. So get to go in person and address the issue before leaving them. Request to see where they are with the form. Your I-485 gives you a strong ground to remain in the US for the outcome of any filing or petition without that you are at the mercy of deportation except you already have your Vawa approved.

in this painful journey everyone should consider hiring best attorneys.
yes i paid $13k to an attorney who just submitted some papers but yes i got everything right in a very short time.

I did my I485 myself after my VAWA petition was approved. Within 5 months I received my greencard. It pains me to read post like this because your lawyer is just wasting your time.

just change your lawyer look in AVVO website it's included Immigration lawyers with past experiences and reviews get one from your nearby good luck!

@bridges 5 My medical is valid indefinitely since I did it after the new USCIS rule that said there’s no expiration to the medicals now.

@sweet Lins 5 months? Damn. Was your i485 sent to Nebraska or Vermont?
Kanye EastMar 17, 2025
@blessed & favored I selected the lawyer based on the ratings. They seem to be very well versed in VAWA related applications. Now when I read the ratings & reviews again, I realize that it could very well be paid for & fake.

@uu u They still haven’t submitted it, it’s 10 months now.
pal PalMar 17, 2025
@Kanye East tbh they shouldn’t take that long to send an I485 application in especially if Vawa app already sent and they should’ve sent everything together (Vawa,GC,WP,travel documents) at the same
sweet linsMar 17, 2025
@Kanye East I didn’t file concurrently so when my VAWA was approved then I submitted my I485 application along with my medicals to Nebraska and Nebraska transfer it to NBC
