VAWA I-485: Address Change Advice Needed
Hi everyone,
I filed my I-485 separately after my VAWA approval. When I filed, my residence was in Brooklyn. I just finished my biometrics, and I’ve now moved to Queens.
I’m wondering if I need to update my physical address. My mailing address hasn’t changed—it’s still my lawyer’s office. If I do need to update, should I do it online, by mail (AR-11), or by phone?
Also, I’m a bit worried about the interview: if the officer asks for my current address, should I say Brooklyn or Queens? Will updating my address affect my I-485 processing or interview scheduling at this stage?
Thanks so much for any advice!

If your mailing address is your attorney's office, it means that your attorney should communicate the changes not you personally.

don’t make it complicated, when you move, u need to update ur new address, keep it simple. ur lawyer can mail or call USCIS customer care and ask for Tier 2 officer (7am-4pm) because they r authorized to change the address…
changing address doesn’t affect processing I-485 but not changing might affect.

no. don’t. since everything goes to your lawyer. I’ve moved 4times the last 4years and everything goes to my lawyer. I filed my last ead myself and b/c of that uscis tried to send it to me then it got returned and it hey sent it to my lawyer so don’t do it plsss!!!

you only need to update your address with your lawyer not uscis that’s what mine told me now if your lawyer is the one changing address they will have to write to them

@jj jj I updated my new address with my lawyer, but I don’t think they have updated it with USCIS. So my concern is, during the interview, If I mention the new address, will the officer question why I didn’t update my residential address with USCIS within 10 days after moving?

@Launica one I already gave my new address to my attorneys, but they said they only updated it in their office records, not with USCIS. My concern is, during the interview, if the officer asks for my address and I give my new one even though I haven’t updated it with USCIS yet, could that be a problem?

tbh it doesn’t matter. if you gets interviewed they will ask you and you can give them. I’ve seen people do it on this platform. don’t worry about the future. relax and keep calm. your correspondences goes to your lawyer right now. don’t worry about what has not yet happened.

yes you always have to update your physical or sage address immediately

@jj jj So you mean at the beginning of the interview, the officer will ask if I have any updates, and then I can tell them I want to update my new address? And they won’t blame me for that, right? I moved from Brooklyn to Queens.
Last week I even sent a email to my lawyer asking if we need to update my address with USCIS.She said she needs to discuss it with her supervisor and will reply to me next week.Of course, I don’t really want to make any changes to my case either before the interview .
Also I’m not sure if a VAWA-based interview is different from other types of interviews, since for other applicants they have to notify USCIS of an address change right away

it’s always at the end based on what I’ve read here and it doesn’t affect your decision.

@jj jj I thought the same, so I’ve been asking people who already had their interviews, but no one has replied yet. Let’s see what my lawyer says next week.
