Using EAD- Religious Workers
I have a question if religious workers can use EAD for Uber if there is a backlog… I read online that if h1b people use ead and somehow I 485 gets denied, they need to go outside usa to convert again to h1b. please shed some light on this matter guys. is this also the case for religious workers?

EB-4 religious workers are the only category that is clearly stated can’t use their EAD for anything else. Not even another place of worship

@TRS Hopefully you are correct.

@Rumi S Maintaining Eligibility for Adjustment
- If a religious worker switches to a different employer (religious or non-religious) while their I-485 is pending, their adjustment case could be denied because they are no longer fulfilling the job for which their green card petition was filed.
Working for Uber as a Side Job - While working for Uber using an EAD is generally permissible, the religious worker must ensure that they are still primarily employed by their petitioning religious organization. Otherwise, USCIS may determine that they are no longer eligible for the green card.

check the reddy Neumann page on h1b visa regarding usage of EAD.. that’s where I learnt about ead using. I know h1b is different case but still it’s an EB visa . question is if we use ead for uber and after few months ead gets revoked, then is there an effect on unlying r1 status? if anyone knows please also share source of information.

that’s what I am asking bro…can we use ead for uber? reddy Neumann website has different point of view..they say that h1b ends if you use ead… is it same for r1? does r1 ends if we use ead? I hope my query is clear now

@Rumi S You cannot do any other work or side gig on EB4 religious worker while pending adjustment

@Prabhu 007 have you asked about this from your lawyer?
V NFeb 15, 2025
@Rumi S, @TRS Hopefully is correct. some websites stating that as long as you maintain your primary position with your I-360 sponsor you can work part time, but attorneys not suggesting because there is possibility to lose your underlaying adjustment of status petition (the agency may suspect you as you will leave your primary position at any moment, however you will justify that you don’t have any intentions you will leave your position, these actions lead your case more longer to adjudicate).

@Rumi S Another danger is when you file for citizenship and they see you worked outside of the place that filed for you while awaiting AOS.

Honestly, I am not enjoying this scare-mongering being peddled here. Ask your lawyer about the possibility of changing employers while waiting for your GC. Many lawyers I know categorically state that you can engage in another job so long as you do not change your primary employer. So long as you carry your primary employer along and make it look like they gave you the green light to do the job you would be fine. Let your lawyer know before making any move. However, making it look as if you are in prison because you are waiting for years for a decision is false and mere scaremongering. Don’t fall for it.

@tj singh I don’t have a lawyer bro… all I did was myself..
tj singhFeb 15, 2025
@G L but bro how one can continue to work after completion of 5 year validity of r1 visa if someone has not got his ead?
TRS HopefullyFeb 15, 2025
@Nestor O My response is based on what my lawyer said.

You can only do any part-time side hustle while working full-time on your religious workplace, as you filed 485.
