Using Advance Parole for traveling
Hello good people,
I am an F-1 student applied for I-485 on March 2023. It has been five months no update on my case except biometrics. My PD is current. Being an F-1 student, one potential risk while using the Combo card is that in case I-485 get declined, I will no longer apply for AOS. Unfortunately, USCIS made my situation unfavorable and I have no other options but using the Combo card especially for travel purposes.
I need to travel due to some urgent reasons. I am looking for advices who have similar experiences.
1. While traveling outside with Advance parole and returning to the USA did you face any issues?
2. Do I need to show any documents to CBP after returning to the USA?
Thanks in Advance.

I didn’t have any issues using my advance parole. Just like you I was sceptic and scared but it’s only natural. As your reason for travel is considered urgent then I don’t think it should be an issue. I expedited my advance parole due to urgent humanitarian reason (death in my family) and was approved under such basis so when I travelled they had an idea of why I was traveling. Upon your return you will go to an officer who will take your passport and parole document and then call for assistance to take you to secondary inspection. I waited in a full room for about 5 minutes and was lucky enough to not be asked a single question, my passport was returned to me and I was told to have a good night. To be on the safe side take all receipts relating to your case and if you have evidence to support your urgency to travel. All the best!

I wouldn’t worry about using AP. I just used it for the first time two days ago for vacation purposes with no issues. my lawyer recommended to carry a copy of the I-485 receipt notice and latest paystub. got the secondary inspection but they only needed my passport and combo card.
One advice though: I came from an airport which cleared immigration before the flight (not in the US). Despite being at the airport 3 hours earlier, I almost missed my flight due to secondary inspection (waiting time was about 40 min). CBP officer was super nice but told me to always allow additional time when traveling with AP.
good luck!

@Permanent Resident my PD March 2022. USCIS didn’t respond me except saying that the case is in normal processing window.
