USCIS on-site check/verification for AOS
I had a surprise visit by a USCIS officer at my work. I was working from due to Covid-19 and he was patiently waited until I reached office. It was more of an interview about work, team, etc. for about 30 mins. I was wondering if it was for my h1 extension and he mentioned it is for AOS only. I have also raised service request as my application went outside normal processing. Anyone had any such experience of on-site visit for AOS? What to expect next?

In September 2008, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued its H-1B Benefit Fraud & Compliance Assessment Report.1 The report found that 20% of the reviewed H-1B petitions contained fraud or technical violations. As a result of the Assessment Report and other fraud initiatives, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stepped up its monitoring and reviewing of H-1B petitions.2 DHS recently announced, and companies have reported, an increase in site visits by USCIS to companies petitioning for temporary work visas on behalf of employees, including the employer’s principal place of business and the nonimmigrant’s work location. In the past, site visits took place but were not common and were usually focused on certain types of employers or certain types of nonimmigrant visas, such as R-1s (religious workers). Now, it appears the policy has shifted, and site visits will occur more regularly and can affect any type of employer that files an H-1 or L-1 visa petitions on behalf of a foreign worker. <<<< this comes up on a basic search. o wow.. that’s really unheard of .. so what if you wouldn’t have traveled to work ? u might have missed the interview? isn’t it very likely due to pandemic ?

A SJan 14, 2022
so you got your ead/ap and your GC is pending ? didn’t attend no interview apart from this surprise visit ? is that right ?
M AJan 14, 2022
can you let us know how they contacted you? like how were you notified on that day when you were worming from home.

even still - VERY rare. Imagine the resources they’d need to police that if that was common place

just curious .. you also had an h1b extension filed ? i am wondering if you had some changes in status visa wise and I doubt if you are on h1b you get filed under the eb1 c category ? it’s usually intra company transfer.. if this is the case then it might have triggered the surprise visit for background checks

@M A, they got hold of someone working at office. Showing their identity, they asked them to show my workplace. My colleague contacted me in teams. I told him to convey that I am working from home and coming to office to meet the officer. Good that he waited. In the meantime he did all inquiries with some of my team mates. I reached in 30 mins and interview went for about 30 mins. Have to wait and see what next.
