USCIS Case status timeline
hi! my I-485 is at the National Benefits Center. When I search for the timeline to process 80% of cases at USCIS official website, for this specific form, all field offices seem to be on the menu but the NBC is not listed. Am I doing something wrong? thanks!

yes. technically, you need to check your local field office processing times.
even though that “processing time” page is referenced everywhere as a method to tell people waiting a long time is normal, I don’t think it tells you anything tangible. it’s just a gaslight tool to tell you what “normal” is. your case may be approved long before or long after those times. Case by case processing times are all over the place and it’s impossible to guess when an individual case may be adjudicated.

@m t is absolutely right. they are simply telling you not to bother them for 2 years. Aos is very random

@mi a The NBC usually (if not always) sends their cases to field offices (to balance workload). Your case may not be at your local field office. It may be at a non-local FO. You can ask Emma and get that information- they will tell you when the case was transferred and also the city it was transferred to. When you have that, you can check avg processing time for that particular FO. Once approved, the case is transferred back to NBC and it seems like the NBC processed it, without showing any behind the scenes work done by the field office.
Usually, when interviews are waived, the cases are transferred to non-local offices but they could be re-transferred to a local FO depending on what their assessment is…hope this helps!

@Y I @m t if the case moved to non local field office where the time line is showing way higher than the local field office, then what timeline one should consider?

@BL D
technically you’re not even supposed to know when your file is with a non-local field office. officially you still need to keep track of your local FO times. you could still try to use two numbers to try to interpret something, but at the end of the day, nothing is certain and those numbers don’t tell you anything tangible. I know some people’s cases went to very slow nonlocal and got approved quickly while others wait a long time.
