i submitted my U visa application in January 2018 and this year I received my work permit. Last year in June apparently USCIS said U Visa applicants would receive work permit "faster" but I can't tell you exactly when their going to start implementing this changes. Because this year only people who submitted in 2017 and 2018 are receiving work permits.

i applied for I-765 when I submitted my U visa application in January 2018. I did fingerprints in February 2018, like I said with the new rule is going to be effective.

you can expedite if you have valid reasons I can't assure you how long it's going to take under the new rule, I overheard some inmigration lawyers it could take now 1 to 1.5 years. is possible because I also got married with a US citizen and we submitted my adjustment of status on February this year and still didn't received my work permit or ss under my family based case application.
