Travel out of US right after Oath ceremony - Allowed or not?
Hi People,
Hear me out - I got a special case for you all. I have applied for US Citizenship and I am estimating by end of the year I should get interview scheduled and Oath. I checked online and it says it takes 1-2 months to get US passport.
Now the main issue - I am planning to travel to India in Dec ‘23 and come back around Mid Feb ‘24.
Would I be able to travel to India? I looked up online and what I am aware of till now is I can go to India without US passport as I can show my Indian passport as a primary document but while coming back from India to US, they will ask for my US passport which I won’t have if I don’t get it before Dec ‘23.
Also I got one more issue where while booking flights right now - I would have to provide my Indian passport number but when I will travel I might have become US citizen (if I would have completed my Oath) so not sure what to do in that case?

if you are sure you will receive an interview by the end of the year you can still travel. The day that you pass the test they will ask you if you are planning to travel abroad. So, they can reschedule the Oath ceremony after you come back from your trip. Therefore, you can use your green card at the time you come back. Because passports are taking 10-13 weeks.

@Random C as proof to whom? I’m just letting you know because I did my naturalization a month ago. My lucky I did the oath ceremony on the same day. But before that, the officer asked me if I’m planning to travel abroad, If yes, it would it better to reschedule my oath ceremony. Because at the time of entry, you might have problems.

@Jos Ro u don’t know your input will be of much help to me - I just gotta make sure now that I get my interview before Dec ‘23 and then I reschedule Oath later on

pay your flight ticket or hotel reservation and take all your documents to the passport agency they will print yo passport based on the traveling ticket or hotel reservation talking out of experience

@cisse cisse what do you mean by passport agency - I don’t think US has that or maybe I am not aware of it till now.
