The “illegal” term
oke since my case is under f2a category and as we all knew the visa bulletin is stuck for months and I have no clue when it will be continue to move again and I read lot of ppl in different apps talking about the political shifting and the terms of illegal or being illegal in the future since their case is taking longer than expected and they can’t see the end of the waiting period, it’s mentally effecting me as well since only my I-130 has been approved and I-485 still pending and I don’t know when my visa bulletin will be current and my EAD card is almost expired in just 3 months from now. My question is; would my expiration of my EAD effecting my legal status if I’m not renew it since i choose not to back to work for a while? would I became illegal while my EAD is expired and I don’t renew it while my I-130 has been approved? would the approved form I-130 helps if i didn’t renew my EAD Card?
sorry for a long sentence just feel kinda stressful after read all the political stuff recently, it’s drained me lot

one word of advice and I’ll tell you from experience. Do not listen to the fear mongering of anyone including these so called immigration lawyers who appear to only milk the needs of a person and take advantage. as long as you followed the rules and have not broken any of them or lie your way for a benefit, you are more than ok. your I-130 tells them that you are already in a process of obtaining permanent status and gave you EAD which allows you stay while your case is being processed. remember you can always renew your EAD for free and you should apply for renewal that way by the time this one expires you get the new one. be at peace, I was once there and was super scared listening to all the noise. Go renew your EAD and make sure you’re doing your part. the less questions you raise the better it will be. for instance be prepared to answer why you stopped working?

@Jesus is King 🙏🏻totally agree with this…very good advise. there is so much noise out there that can easily distract one to lose focus.

@Jesus is King I need to take care to my babies I’m not sure when I can get back to work since both of them just infant and toddler so renewing EAD is kinda big thing nowadays but the political shifting and all the predictions in many platforms is so intense, this waiting game is going crazy and it’s consuming my energy a lot so tired yet so close but I don’t know the finish line.

@Lulla Ycr as soon as you have your I-485 pending you're good. you're legally staying in the US. you don't need get your ead renewed.

@Lulla Ycr there is no obligation to work once having your EAD, but if in need to get a job out of the blue it will be good to have it.
As the saying “Is better to have it and not needed than needed it and not have it”
Key points about EADs:
Work authorization, not employment mandate:
An EAD is a document that proves you have the legal right to work in the US, but it does not force you to be employed.
Choice of employment:
If you have an EAD, you can choose to work for any employer in the US, or choose not to work at all.

you are required to keep your EAD current while your I-485, which means file ASAP for renewal
