State Identification Card & Help Building Credit OR Help Buying a Home
I am a US citizen. I married my husband in 2020, a Mexican immIgrant that’s resided in the US approximately 20 yrs . We’ve filled I-130/130A ( Petition for Alien Relative). I recently sent additional info requested to keep our petition moving forward. This is where we are right now and I know I can only wait for a response from our petition. In the meantime, I’ve been trying to get my husband approved for a state ID. They will not issue him one even with our marriage certificate, passport, a social security denial letter, and numerous other documents showing proof of him living here.. One thing that we don’t have is the employment verification form. Does anyone know how this would work when we are both self-employed? I don’t understand how he’s able to buy a vehicle, have it registered (in his name) along w/ tag, title & insurance, yet he’s not allowed a state ID. Does anybody have any info or suggestions for us in our situation? They would be extremely appreciated! Thanks a bunch.

with the i485 reciept is what u would use to get an id

if tour husband is here in the United state u should file i130 i130 a i485 and i765

Yes, I have filled for the I-485 form which is actually the I-130/130A petition. I tried to give the person in the drivers license office the receipt from the form but they would not except it..?

so, your husband doesn’t have any Social Security Number, does he? As far as I’m concerned, SSN is required for any state credentials to be issued unless you’re living in states where they can issue IDs to undocumented immigrants.

and yes your right about the 485 form. I forgot because it’s been so long since we filled out the I-130 form.

I went to DMV with my I-797C receipt and they won’t give me a state ID unless I bring the actual work permit card even with prove that I’ve filed for it and showing them my receipt and social security card etc they still denied me.

unless you are in a state that will give undocumented immigrants state ID you cannot get a state ID without your work permit and social security

I am in the state of Florida and I submitted my application in august and was able to use my receipt letters to receive my drivers license along with my marriage certificate, passport i-94 and two letters to prove my residency. I got a paper license for 60 days until the dmv headquarters in Tallahassee FL could verify my pending status. I received my drivers license in the mail yesterday. however I had gotten my EAD within a month so I had to wait until 45 days after the paper license in order for the dmv office to override the status verification and issue me a physical card before it was expired as my license from my home country was expired few days before receiving the paper license

persistence and determination to solve our problems is sometimes needed in order to find the right solutions to our problems. as for SSN you definitely would have to wait for his work permit as I couldn't even get my name change done without correcting it on my documents they issued me

You’re probably right. We haven’t been as persistent as we probably should with this issue as we have many, many other things going on, i.e., bills, family, business, bills and more bills ;/ to deal with. I think we will try to solve this problem once this year is over and go at it guns-a-blazin! ;) Thanks for your help.
