call they will give you in appointment and before that send the application with the copies and they will call back and give you one for you to go in verify your documents and they will send you a card. I just did that a week ago and I got my ssc on Wednesday

I called them and they told me we are not doing in person services, so I need to send them original green card. and I did

but now they say I shouldn't have sent them the original green card

and then what do they tell you to do in order for you to get your SSC?

they don't allow to speak, rather lady started yelling on phone that why I sent my original green card, she didn't allow me to speak and disconnected

they won't pick up the call. if they did, every person will give you a different information

she’s wrong. No federal government agencies are accepting photo copies in the mail. I had to mail my original marriage certificate, passport and birth certificate when I applied to get a new Social security card

and by the way it took 3 months for me to get my documents back from SSA. I had to email my Congress person for help getting them back. rediculous

my wife when she lost her ss card, they told her to send her driver’s license hard copy , she did so n her drivers license was mailed back n letter she received new ss card

@Nad , they replaced her social in less than a week, but they first mailed back her original drivers license. send yo greencard that’s the process u can’t change it, they will mail yo card back no need to worry about nothing.

I asked them for sending old valid for work only, they said, I need not to send the old one, just fill the form and send the green card. @Ausher! are you talking about the Houston SSA office?

in my case, to apply for the first time to social security they asked me to send by fax a copy (obviously) of my work permit, the application and my passport (Houston social security)

@Eugenia!after EAD they had sent me my SSN after a month, but I had checked the box for auto production while,filling USCIS form.

I need to deal with the Houston social security office as well. they are telling me to send my original passport, but that's illegal, and if they lose it it would put me in an unimaginable amount of trouble. so I'm not sure what to do. the phone lady just screams, doesn't listen to a word you're saying

@Eugenia, I'm regretting sending my GC, I daily spend hours and hours calling them, they hang up, shout or tell a different story each time. my ticket is for Sunday, couldn't retrieve my GC still.

I did what Eugenia said and I got my ssc within a week after I applied

@E no! unfortunately not yet. I tried calling them various times. they committed to call me back, which they never did.

I'm sorry, what a nightmare.

one of their employees scared me more that they have a huge backlog. SSA is not open employees are attending calls from their homes, so they can not in the position to assist people.

the only one I ever get on the phone is a lady that will not let me finish my sentence and just starts screaming. I have to change my name but I've been too scared to send in my original passport. your story somewhat confirmed that fear.

yes! that what they do, they don't listen you just scream and hang off on your face. you did the right thing, don't send your original documents, rather try to get an appointment
