sister- in law finally Became a US Citizen
she’s married to a US citizen
she had he conditional green card
she applied for removal of conditions and received the 24 or 48 months extension receipt.
90 days before reaching the 3 years of being married/permanent resident- we file the N-400 on July 4th 2024
included all the required documents.
(they owed some taxes, we provided reciept of payment plan with the irs)
we had no RFE and both her removal of conditions/ N400 processed together- her husband wasn’t needed during the interview.
on 02/04/2025 she became a US citizen- so she never receive a 10 year green card. I am so happy for her and I’m happy I file the the form for her. I am not a lawyer and I don’t really know much about immigration. but I researched a lot before filing for her and doing it that way was the quickest.
so far I’ve file my own n-400 and mother-in -laws we’ve all been approved with no RFEs. good luck to you all.

so they didn’t request for the husband to come at the interview

she was a permanent resident for 3 years since she was married to a US citizen. she filed 90 days before hitting the 3rd year. also she had already file for removal of condition I-751 but that takes a long time. so while she was waiting for it, we file the n-400 so they process both cases together. therefore she never received a 10 year GC. she went from having her conditional GC to being a citizen in less than 4 years.

@md dd do you know bankcruptcy debt related can have any effect on citizenship application?
md ddFeb 12, 2025
@all is well I am not sure about Bankruptcy, I’d probably research it and how to properly explain it on your application . I know owing too much taxes affects your chances but it really depends on who is doing your interview. I owed less than 5k taxes when I did mine. my sister in law owed more than 10k she was fine.. so research on all platforms before filing yourself. good luck

@md dd thanks and I am just curious they deny for bankruptcy reason or any explanation they ask for it .

congrats! how did you get statements/receipt of the payment plan for the taxes owed?
md ddMar 3, 2025
@N J on the irs sites, I screenshot and made a pdf. or I think once you click to view the statements you select the reason immigration then the year it’ll have what you owe and the payments you’ve made and dates. so when you answer yes on owed tax question. I’d explain it like that” I currently have a payment plan set up with the IRS and I included I uploaded proof of monthly payments “ I didn’t put the total owed. I only show the payments.
