RFE response sent to Sacramento Field Office
Our interview was on August 4. All went well and officer let us know we might receive an RFE as applicant(me) name is missing on the original birth certificate.
We finally received the RFE on 9/23 and sent the response with all documents required on 10/1. Tracking shows that it was delivered and someone signed for it. How long after this would we get a response/update?
Our case status online doesn’t say anything about the RFE sent or received but I heard that field offices don’t update that.
Anyone been through this process?

them receiving it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re going to take a look at it right this minute. sometimes it could be very quick, sometimes it takes months. also the online status is not reliable, if you want to know, you can call USCIS and hold for couple hours and ask a representative to check it for you.

Thank you! I understand they won’t look at it right away. I was only afraid that it hasn’t updated in the system that I was even sent to me. The deadline on the response is December, just any notification before that would be helpful as I hope you can understand how stressful it is to just wait 😭

you are absolutely fine. if your mail tracking confirmed then it is there!

if you received confirmation of any sorts. it typically means you are fine and they just haven’t updated it on their server. if you want to be absolutely certain, you can always call them and ask the status of your case!

Hi I'm in the same boat like you.
I got RFE after my GC interview.
send the response to uscis FO about 2 months ago, but until now still waiting.
nor updated. just interview was scheduled . and yes is a extremely hard time for people facing this process
s POct 4, 2021
what’s your field office?
s POct 4, 2021
and yes that is a long wait! is your PD past the current date? if yes then you should raise an SR

Hi sp. just wondering if any updates about your case?
Mary October 2019Feb 17, 2022
Hi! I’m in the same boat now. I don’t know if you finally got your response from the Sacramento FO? If so, how long did they take?
I had my interview, got a RFE for medical, sent them and my case hasn’t been updated. It doesn’t even show that I got a RFE.
Thank you !

Hi Mary! I wanted to respond right away as I know the waiting process is very exhausting and tiring. We got approved within 45 days after submitting the response to the RFE after interview. Having said that, I don’t know the rest of the details of your case so the timing might be different. but I recommend reaching out to the chat or calling to get information. Being a little more proactive here will be helpful. or atleast help calming down if you’re getting anxious. I was definitely stressed. But it all went well.
I will highlight that during that process, my EAD renewal was also due so I raised an SR for that and that could’ve helped with the I485 and I130 timeline. again - all cases are different so I encourage you to stay hopeful and positive! I’ll pray that everything goes well for you!

I send my RFE response on September 2021 and still waiting for a desicion. Orlando FO.

very difficult to get in touch by phone with a uscis agent.
Mary October 2019Feb 17, 2022
Thank you so much.
I’m stressed out because they took my AP at the interview and my EAD card is expired. I applied to renew them before I even know that I would have an interview, but they’re not working on that either.
It hasn’t been that long since I sent my medical records, but I was hoping for a quick response since everything was fine 😭

hello did you ever get response on rfe? if yes how long did it take? i am in same boat as you, i have replied to the rfe, it’s been two months but it has not been updated online
s PMay 3, 2022
hi Nikki! as my rfe was after the interview- the only response was the decision in my case. my case was approved in about 30-40 days.
if your rfe was after the interview - I recommend following up and escalating to tier 2. For me - since I filed an SR for my EAD which was based on my I485, I think that may have triggered the case to be moved but I am just guessing.
I pretty much followed up once/twice a week. also - as soon as it was 30 days after I submitted my response to rfe (which is the time they ask you to wait after you’ve sent a response to RFE), I called, filled SR and continued to do pretty much all I could. Talked to tier 1 agent in Emma. escalated to Tier 2. you know the drill.

I hope you hear positive news soon! all the best for your journey!

hello thankyou so much for your response I really appreciate it.
Yes so my rfe was issued after interview, I have already submitted one SR and the response was that “your case is still under review”.
I am worried because they didn’t update online that they have received my response.
It’s been 6 weeks but there is still on response and I have submitted a SR again today.
Also, sorry I might sound really dumb but can you tell me what is the process to escalate to tier 2? I might know what it is but I am bad with this terminology so I don’t understand.
Thankyou again

10 months after my rfe response and still waiting for any action from field office.
nikki callenMay 3, 2022
hi was your rfe issued after interview?
LP LPMay 3, 2022
yes it was
LP LPMay 3, 2022
just for a simple corrected document
nikki callenMay 3, 2022
is your field office Sacramento? because that sounds really heartbreaking
nikki callenMay 3, 2022
did you try escalating?
LP LPMay 3, 2022
when I ask about my case uscis tier 2 says that my case is pending for background check. 🤔 🙄
nikki callenMay 3, 2022
how do you reach tier 2 officer?
LP LPMay 3, 2022
but they don't see any information about my rfe response.
s PMay 3, 2022
no question is dumb! we have all been through the process and we all know how frustrating it can get.
from what I remember- call on the uscis number as soon as they open. I’m in PT timezone so I would get up at 5:00 am PT as they open at 8:00 ET.
continue to ask for agent according to the options on IVR. Highly likely and automated machine will say that they’ll say they’re busy(which they typically are with a TON of people calling in) and take your number for a call back.
when they call you back - it maybe a tier 1 agent. who should be able to help. if not - and it’s been beyond the time they said they’d response AND the processing time is beyond your priority date per the USCIS website - ask to escalate to tier 2 agent. they are typically IOs who also work on cases so they maybe able to help with literally all the information you’ll need.
one time - I got the nicest IO ever as a tier 2 agent. and he empathized and said I know it is about someone’s life but I recommend you to patiently wait. but it was good to connect to a human who knows the backend and he explained to me why the processing might have taken the time it did.
ok that’s was a long essay. hope that helps you!
LP LPMay 3, 2022
tier 1 should do it.
nikki callenMay 3, 2022
Thankyou again for your kind response s P. I think I almost lost patience, after waiting 3 years for an interview and then getting asked for a rfe and no response for two months it really starts to get you. I will follow your advice and keep haunting them until I get some answers. I appreciate you getting back. Also just to clarify again did you get response 30 days after you submitted the RFE? Thankyou again and God bless you!
