RFE Birth Certificate I-485
I just received an RFE for birth certificate even though I know I sent them when I first filed.
It says they want me to submit original copy of birth certificate. Do I also have to send in translated version as well? or just the original copy?
Thank you

yes needs to be translated. read the directions VERY carefully. if you respond to an RFE incorrectly you can be denied. they don’t issue two RFEs.
make sure it’s the right version… ie if it needs your parents names on it etc. @J K

The same thing happened to me, they asked me for a copy of my birth certificate. You have to find someone in your country of origin who can make that copy for you and a lawyer who can authenticate it and send it to you.

@Elizabeth R @J K All translations I translated them myself and signed a seperate note attesting I was fluent in both languages. did everything myself, approved. I would recommend watching videos and yes, very close attention to instructions on the wording they expect and make sure the person translating can do so very accurately.

@J K once translated. I created a seperate document, example as follows:
Translator Certificate
I,, am competent to translate from to English and certify that the translation of the is true and accurate to the best of my abilities.

@J K one last thing to note, birth certificate from country of origin was electronic, with qr codes, etc. very 2024 and hence why in our case we skipped the physical authentication. hope this helps.

Thank you so much everyone! Also @E M @Elizabeth R, can you submit them electronically? Or did you submit yours by mailing them? I do have an option to submit electronically, but I wasn’t sure which method is preferred.

The best method is by express mail, after that I had my residency approval

16 days after sending the copy of the birth certificate, my case was approved and yesterday I received my green card.
