Recived my GC and refugee travel document (green passport)
Hello all, looking for some people who had experience with traveling with refugee travel document? This is not an advanced parole but an actual passport.
I know that few European countries accept it visa free, I’m not considering those countries though to travel to. Does anyone have an experience abroad using GC and travel document besides those countries? if you’d share your experience, that would be greatly appreciated. Ideally looking to visit Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines. I have contacted their embassy but haven’t heard back.

@Jason Kim sounds good, thanks for the info. embassies from both Indonesia and Vietnam told me the same thing… I will try calling the other ones that I mentioned above.

I traveled to Colombia and Canada with the travel document and green card .I didn’t have any issues , ingestion officers are not familiar with this document but once they ask their supervisors they just stamp your travel document and that’s it .

why I can't use my foreign passport and greencard to come back to USA, it was based on asylum. is it really gonna be a problem if I use my foreign passport to visit Thailand? rtd is only for a year as I know, and to get it takes over a year. that's ridiculous

@Ruslan Vakhitov I know right? but I can tell you why you can’t travel with your home country passport. Once you enter a foreign country with your home country’s passport, you are represented by that country. If something happens, you will be a subject to go to your home country. I know you probably won’t have problems and even if you come back with green card and your home country’s passport, the officers will get you through. However, later on, when you apply for citizenship, that’s when it might come up and be a problem. USCIS STRONGLY advises not to use your home passport for travels.

@E H did you need a visa or anything?
Alex BOct 9, 2024
@Ruslan Vakhitov @David T you can use your passport as long as not going home country. Instances of people getting in trouble for that are EXTREMELY RARE

@David T My wife coming back this Sunday using home country passport,
David TOct 9, 2024
@Alex B yep, still a small risk, there’s also a risk using RTD so might as well just use whatever is convenient for you lol. I personally can’t get my home country passport so will have to use RTD. still thinking where to go this winter.

how about travel passport (the one is given to green card holders). is there an information what countries do accept it?
David TOct 25, 2024
@waiting forever you would have to do research. there are some countries in Europe that accept it visa free. I used Reddit which is pretty helpful. I’m traveling to Thailand in Jan with my travel document and green card, waiting for e-visa to be approved.
