It is not really a one way street, you do not really need to buy a life insurance just to show that you have things toghter. Like if you have one already, adding your spouse to be the beneficiary would be a great idea. Same with car insurance, it would make more sense if you have both name on the policy, given that you have a car. So, off course, if you have life or/and car insurance, your spouse name is a very great idea, but I would not buy them to show that. Hope it helps!

we have a joint checking and savings account plus I add him to my credit card he's also the beneficiary of my 401k and IRA

the more you have in common the better, specifically if you dont have a child together.
so having a joint bank account, car insurance, car title, insurance policy, mortgage or lease in both names will always help you on your case.

@melina perez I get insurance from work I added him as beneficiary for the car the insurance was too high because I'm a new driver so we did it separately
