Prohibition of issuing immigration visas for 75 countries
Hello everybody! Who knows what to do now with the new bans on immigration visas for 75 countries. I live in a country that is on this list. My wife and child live in the USA. Our i-130 petition has been under consideration since March 2023, please tell me what to do, what to do in this situation? Thank you

Unfortunately, still no other news or details from officials but this weird article from fox news and absolutely random list of countries which everyone refers to. Things like that happened before and there is nothing can be done at that point but to wait and see what happens next.
Probably they will introduce new rules for IVs in the next 30-60-90 days, stating how immigrants should prove they won’t become a “liability” for americans.
You have nothing to worry about until your petition is approved which will take some more time and your case reaches NVC where the whole process also takes 4-6 months before the interview is scheduled. By that time things will probably become way more clear about what’s happening, until then wishing you best of luck with your case, everything will be fine!! 🙌

@Paul Su Thank you very much! Of course we will wait. There is also no information on this topic on the official website yet. Your case was reviewed on January 10th, congratulation!
Please tell me what are the next steps? Are you located in the United States?

@Timur D Thank you! Yes, approved but my country is in the new list so… 🥴
I found the article on the travel.state.gov website so we can consider it an official information I guess:
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/immigrant-visa-processing-updates-for-nationalities-at-high-risk-of-public-benefits-usage.html
But still, the situation is as unclear as it was yesterday, at least they confirmed it is not connected to non immigrant visas, and if you have another passport not in the list you’re good to go for your visa.
After you get your approval from USCIS they will transfer your case to NVC and you’ll get an email from NVC with login details for the ceac.state.gov - there you will need to pay fees and after that fill the DS-260 and upload all the requested documents (civil docs like birth and police certificates, etc + affidavit of support). When the NVC get everything they want from you and check that everything is fine they will schedule an interview for you (the beneficiary) where council will ask some questions about your marriage, plans regarding your life in the US and maybe few other questions, after the interview they will tell you the result and take your passport for pasting an immigrant visa in it - note that they will revoke any other US visas

I would recommend to find ds-260 examples right now and right down the answer in advance so you won’t spend a lot of time when you’ll need to fill it on the portal. The form is very big - includes all your previous places of work, places where you live (addresses, not just country and city), all your social accounts, phone numbers and email account you ever used and much more, so better have everything ready before the time comes to actually fill it so you can simply copy paste the answers.
Also make sure that you have all the civil documents and certified translations (if needed) ready - all your previous marriages and divorces (if there were any), police certificates from all the countries you’ve lived for longer than 6 months in the recent years, birth certificate etc
You can double check here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html

the website says “Department will continue to schedule applicants for appointments, but no immigrant visas will be issued to these nationals during this pause. ”
is the NVC still gonna schedule interviews but not issue visa? how would that work?

@Paul Su
please can you helps explain for consular processing? I live in the US and I have pétitionned for my husband. I a a green card holder
Paul SuJan 15, 2026
@Vanou Dzali hi there! sure, just as I wrote above when your petition get approved you will receive an NVC case number and Invoice ID number by email, using this credentials your spouse needs to login to the ceac.state.gov/IV and fill the DS-260 about his previous work places, where he lived etc, submit all the document and wait while they check everything and schedule an interview for him. He will go alone in the country where he lives, while you shouldn’t be invited to interview in the US
