this post is on point. I’ve seen more often than not lawyers giving wrong or bad advice. they don’t care as long as you pay the fees.

I didn’t use a lawyer for my case, because it is so simple, and all you have to do is follow the details on the application. They can do nothing to speed up your case, or force an approval. Some people with complicated cases may need help with a lawyer, but most don’t. There is no one more invested in your case than you.

Absolutely correct. Some lawyers are not informed. I responded to my rfe alone,calling uscis alone, expedite request alone. The reason I kept a lawyer is for interview just in case one is scheduled. Tiktok has been of great use to me. Follow up with you cases, do service request Where necessary, infospass every day if necessary. Happy new and goodluck to All.

I just spoke to my lawyer and I asked them can I call USCIS and ask an update on my case . they told no don’t call them it will slow down your case.But here everyone is saying to call and ask uscis . I don’t understand which one is correct.

i dont have lawyers but i see here there some people pay their lawyers $500 $1000 for just simple ead extensions blowing my mind as you said lawyers dont care any of their client they do bussines everybody should take care their own cases you are right not blindly trust the lawyer

don’t trust and pay those lawyers for simple forms. everything is so simple including VAWA case. They don’t care about anyone only money and extremely greedy

I paid 5k for the vawa combo to my Attorney .that's what I paid my attorney just to file them for me and send them ,to me that's expensive, so if my attorney isn't doing there job I'm not gonna sit around and wait. ima be calling or checking USICS for updates

@Oma Nma I agree 💯 with you.. I literally filled my vawa over a year ago my lawyer told me I'd get my EAD 7 months later. It's been over a year later then I had to find out when I saw "receipt notice" 3 weeks ago and saw my lawyer filled my EAD under C31. So I wasted over a year for nothing. Today I filled C09 without telling my lawyer coz she won't file C09 for me. She can be mad but she don't understand how me and my kids have been suffering being without income for over a year and me being homeless. I thought they cared about me and my kids but I learnt my lesson. I know she gon be mad coz but sometimes we to get things done ourselves coz we care more about ourselves. If you want something done you gotta do it yourself.

me and my husband filed without a lawyer then after interview we had to get one because our case wasn't approved the lawyer took 6500 for nothing I had to file for work permit renewal and rfe and my husband was the one who reached out to the congressman the lawyer is rude and it's a big law firm they won't take my calls and I know many more ppl whose lawyer took thousands and didnt file correctly some left off i765 forms some filed wrong category, yes they are real law firms too this is the abuse immigrants are facing its like you have no rights whatsoever even in the work place is pure abuse

I can’t talk for everyone and for the other lawyers, but my lawyer wasn’t too expensive, and it was a great firm, they did well for me, and I thank them greatly.

If your case is not complicated you really don’t need one, you’d be suprised that most of them dont have up to date info, I had to do a research myself and get a lot of information from other filers. I remember when we applied he told us by 6months we will be approved, just told my partner not to have high hopes because at the time it was taking apprx a year to get approval and I got this information from other filers.

@Stoosh M I have to second this. Thank God I had a very good and knowledgeable lawyer who has been great. She became an immigration lawyer because when she was younger she was subject to this process too so she wanted to help others. But what @Oma Nma said is also true. Based on some of the stories I've read here, if you're not guaranteed a good lawyer, you may as well educate yourself and fill out the forms yourself.

That's a good one. Don't depend solely on your Lawyer. I had an update on my case and my lawyer wasn't even aware. The mail sent wasn't delivered. So I personally called USCIS and informed them about the situation and they resent it. Till now, my lawyer hasn't even called to ask me if I have received the letter or not. You are the owner of your case and your lawyer is only helper. Follow up with your case. Set up an account on USCIS website to monitor your case daily. It is very beneficial and helpful.

yeah that's a point. I didn't have a lawyer for my case. I applied Sept 2021 and was approved December 2024. for green card for spouse. yeah it took so long as usually but we made it without lawyer. that message gaves good advice if you decide to do with a lawyer ,be your own lawyer first. but there is everything in the USA website. follow the instructions you will make it.

Those who do it without lawyers are the smart ones… you guys have my respect. My lawyer has been very helpful but some days I wish I saved the money… thought having a lawyer would speed up things but that’s not the case at all.
