NVC PROCESS
hey community, I need your help. so I got my welcome letter, “The U.S. Embassy or Consulate will contact your fiancé (e)/spouse when they are ready to process his or her petition.” however when I track the case it says it is “In transit” but the interview date was not on the email. under the “in transit” it says “ your case is in transit to the consular section. your interview date was provided to you by the National visa center.” I just got my welcome letter today after 85 days and have no even paid my DS-160 yet so am confused how is it in transit if that is not paid yet. so can I just schedule an interview somehow? and then do my DS-160 form? because it says I have to schedule the interview, the consulate does not schedule it for me but I have no clue where to even schedule the interview. looking forward to you’ll knowledge. #K1 #I129F

you currently cannot call NVC. they direct you to writing them an inquiry form. I’ll try filling out the DS-160 maybe after I finish submitting that it’ll let me submit my interview date. or when my case status change to ready then I schedule it.

@Felix Lacayo go ahead and submit your DS-160. Then, go to the appointment system in State department’s website and you will reach a step where it says “pay”. Then you just pay the K1 visa application (DS-160) application fee or simply visa fee. Once you pay it, you will be able to schedule the interview date. Just do things quickly to comply with 4 months rule. Scheduling is only possible after you apply ds160 and pay the payment. No panicking. you are almost at the very end of this process. Do not waste your time. in the approval letter by USCIS, it says 4 months validity. Meaning visa should be issued within 4 months of USCIS approval/decision. Good luck and keep us posted with the process.

@Z Huan so where is the appointment system in state department? do you have the link by chance bud? also I thought you pay the DS-160 right before submitting it? thank you for your help before hand man! I really appreciate it!

@Felix Lacayo my understanding is that you should first apply For DS160 and it will ask you the payment, just like other NIV types. That’s what I know about it, but I might be mistaken. here is the appointment system: https://evisaforms.state.gov/Instructions/SchedulingSystem.asp

@Felix Lacayo : sorry, just to clear up: first apply and submit the ds160 form. you will get your confirmation page and all the application you submitted. second: go the appointment system which I sent it above, and after you fill out some information, there is a step where it asks you to pay. And payment instructions will be provided while you are doing. 3. once you pay, you will go back to the system and proceed to schedule the date and time. that’s what I know.

what county is it…?
F
Felix LacayoMar 15, 2023
@Z huan Honduras. I am also confused on how some people goes in and schedule their own interview and others have to wait to hear from their embassy after submitting the DS-160. I feel like their instructions after approval is very poor.

Z HuanMar 16, 2023
@Felix Lacayo yeah, it’s confusing. Does the welcome letter tell to apply for ds160 or to wait until the embassy reaches out to the beneficiary to do apply, pay and schedule?
F
Felix LacayoMar 16, 2023
@Z Huan says “The U.S. Embassy or Consulate will contact your fiancé (e)/spouse when they are ready to process his or her petition.” but I’m not sure. then on here in the case status it says my interview date has been provided by NVC.

@Felix Lacayo I mean if it says “in transit”, it means it is at the Embassy. There is one more status, “ready”. when it says ready, ds160 can be completed. But it does not hurt if you submit ds160 while it’s “in transit “ state too. if the application goes well, fine. if it says wait for until it says “ready” you can do submit ds160 later. By the way, email to nvc and ask questions. They respond to emails in 2 days.

We’re in the same pickle here. our letter from nvc says case was sent to the consulate in Juarez and online status says “ready” but we literally can’t figure out where to request the appointment
F
Felix LacayoMar 17, 2023
how long did it take for your case to go from “in transit” to “ready” do you know? @Lizzette Quinonez
Lizzette QuinonezMar 23, 2023
@Felix Lacayo it only took like 3 days. but we’re stuck at this point. we did the ds160 as soon as our case was approved by USCIS. but we haven’t gotten anything from NVC other than a letter with the case #. no instructions on how to pay or schedule the interview. it’s so frustrating. every single link I’ve found on the website has been a dead end. but when I submit an inquiry to NVC they refer me to the website. i think I’ll have to contact my congressman at this point.

@Lizzette Quinonez so I was able to do all of that maybe I can help. https://www.ustraveldocs.com you go to this website, select your country and so forth and it’s going to take you to a page. 1. on the right side it says create account/ log in, in your case you create an account. 2. use the email you used when filing for I-129F, after singing up, on the left side once logged in will say new application/Schedule appointment follow the instructions, enter your DS-160 barcode, then it will ask for payment. also there youd choose the location you want your visa shipped for pick up in your country. DS-160 fee will be $265 and it gives you option to pay with credit card then it will give you a receipt number. 3.After completing that it will ask you to schedule appointment, however I would wait until the NVC sends you a second email notifying to go schedule your appointment, once you receive that second email from them, you can log back in, hit continue all the way down to the end again all of your information will be saved, once you get to the end it will ask you to schedule appointment again. if dates are available at your embassy then you will see open slots. took me 5 business days to get the second email from NVC telling me to go schedule my interview however there is no slots open in my country so they told me to constantly check for slots since they randomly add them.

@Z Huan can we submit ds-160 “in transit” or wait till it says “ready”?
M
Mitch AMar 30, 2023
@Felix Lacayo did you submit ds-160 already?
F
Felix LacayoMar 30, 2023
@Mitch A you can submit it while it says “in transit” and pay for it. I already did everything and only waiting for a slot to open up at embassy to schedule interview. I’ve gotten email from both NVC and Embassy they’ve instructed me to to log in and schedule the interview but no slots open.

@Felix Lacayo Hi! we submitted DS-160 and paid. What will be the next step? Thank you
F
Felix LacayoApr 4, 2023
@Mitch A you can check your case status from NVC here: https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?TSPD_101_R0=0883343043ab2000cb7c34f793274d6543de07d421f4726525a860dc5b5428c276b2c0d07100a40e08e28d4110143000a8124d7fd634aca2f96545df84452384535435bf77a7449cc4aee94f77c503c16cae87a86475b34548a1afa74ea22cc3 after your case says “Ready” now you will wait for an Email from your EMBASSY letting you know to log in the website where you paid your DS-160. hit continue and proceed to schedule your appointment. if slots are opened you will see them open at the end. if not it’ll say “there is no appointment available” but in your email from embassy it’ll also give you an option to call the embassy and schedule the appointment. since DS-160 is paid just await that email that tells you to schedule the interview and schedule it and that’s pretty much it.

@Felix Lacayo Do I submit I-134? if I do where do I send it?
F
Felix LacayoApr 4, 2023
no, you have to take that to the interview. you don’t have to send anything from here on out. make sure you fill out DS-160 and take I-134 with all supporting documents and other additional documents that has to go with the interview packet. (evidence of relationship, police certificates, birth certificates, etc) @Mitch A

Thank you @Felix Lacayo. What’s next after paying ds-160? Do we have to wait for email instructions?
M
Mitch AApr 4, 2023
@Felix Lacayo our status is in “transit” since March 28. How long before it changes to “ready”?
F
Felix LacayoApr 4, 2023
@Mitch A my status changed to ready after 3 days but that’s because the embassy at my country is not busy. so for you all you have to do is wait. they will let u know when to schedule interview. also there is no telling when it will change to ready, give it a week or 2. keep checking
Lizzette QuinonezApr 7, 2023
@Felix Lacayo thanks so much for the info 🙏🏽 my fiancé is in Mexico so I’m not sure if it differs. but both he and I have gotten zero emails from the NVC or the embassy. the only emails I’ve gotten were responses to my inquiries. that’s it. no instructions or anything. :( I tried going to the U.S. travel docs website before. the one you’re talking about but it doesn’t work for me. when I click on schedule appointment it says I have to pick what type of visa or something like that. but there’s nothing to click or select. I’ve tried it on different browsers too but no success.

Felix LacayoApr 8, 2023
because first you got to fill out the DS-160 and pay for it there. then there L’s some infor you have to enter in travel docs also n you select Immigrant visa. at the end of all this process then it ask you to schedule visa. if its fiancé it should be the same process @Lizzette Quinonez
Lizzette QuinonezApr 21, 2023
@Felix Lacayo we filled out the ds160 last month. but that travel docs page doesn’t work for us. the embassy finally replied to my inquiry but all they said was there’s no appointments available and they’ll let me know by email when there is. i asked the NVC for instructions on how to pay and they were zero help and just said to contact the embassy.
