Normal processing time 11.5 mo, but USCIS says 24 — why?
Hi all!
I filed my employment-based I-485 in Nov 2024, and it’s at the Oklahoma City Field Office (local). The USCIS site says 80% of cases finish in 11.5 months, so I expected to follow up by Nov 2025 if no answer will be given by then.
But through a congressional inquiry, USCIS said not to contact them until Nov 2026(!!). Has anyone else seen this kind of mismatch? Is that normal or just a generic response??

No idea. I’m getting conflicting information from live agents, some of them saying it’s with the field office (as well as the response to the congressman office), but some say it’s still with the NBC…

If u give Nov 1 2024 as your receipt date, The earliest you can submit questions is July 20, 2026.
In the USCIS processing time page, after checking the processing time, scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see a column to enter your receipt date. This will show you the date when you can contact them.
But dont worry since it’s in a field office, you will get a decision soon.

@J Z thank you! but that’s the thing-according to their own formula on their website, you basically subsract that 11.5 months (normal processing time in all field offices) from today’s date to get the earliest receipt date eligible to submit an inquiry. So if the receipt date is November 2024 and the processing time is 11.5 months, it means one can submit a case inquiry in mid- October 2025.

it’s like new normal.. file with NBC and requesting interview schedule in your local FO. so Emma agent sees both info which they are not trained well to say.. I am also in same boat and congressional enquiry cleared that file with NBC and ready to move if Your FO is ready to take action on it, if no action by FO it will be adjuncts at NBC later. Its new mess and unknown times now.
