Does anybody from India recently become a citizen? I want to know what did you do with the old passport? Because USCIS didn't cancel it. Please share your experience. Thanks.

I'm also from India. I'm still waiting for an interview. I guess after your oath ceremony and certification they suppose to cancel it. do you have your oath ceremony done?
R JMar 18, 2022
nope they don't cancel it
R JMar 18, 2022
you have to apply for renunciation, which costs $286
R JMar 18, 2022
that's what I got to know
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
you can ask frequent question on uscis website...
R JMar 18, 2022
after getting renunciation certificate; you can apply for visa/OCI, which is additional &275
R JMar 18, 2022
I checked on VFS website
R JMar 18, 2022
USCIS has nothing to do with an Indian passport; it’s the applicant's responsibility to take appropriate action on it.
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
what is your local field office ? city?
R JMar 18, 2022
fail to take any action, the penalty is $250
R JMar 18, 2022
NJ
R JMar 18, 2022
And these rules apply to cross all U.S states.
R JMar 18, 2022
across*
R JMar 18, 2022
Because some countries allow dual citizenship, but unfortunately, India doesn't allow that
R JMar 18, 2022
that's why USCIS don't cancel your passport
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
yeah.. OCI is good for us
R JMar 18, 2022
almost $600 for renunciation and OCI for both
R JMar 18, 2022
And until you don't obtain a renunciation certificate, the Indian consulate will not grant the visa/OCI,
R JMar 18, 2022
After obtaining a naturalization certificate within 90 days, apply for a renunciation certificate.
R JMar 18, 2022
I got all those information in just one day.
R JMar 18, 2022
Pass the information to the people who are on this step. Thanks.
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
sure... what is your filing date for n400?
R JMar 18, 2022
I am done with my interview & oath
R JMar 18, 2022
It took me almost 11 months total
R JMar 18, 2022
when did you apply?
R JMar 18, 2022
And which state are you from?
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
I just file last month... but I have another case i751 removal of conditions from green card Going on from 2019...
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
I'm from Dallas Texas
R JMar 18, 2022
So your i751 is not approved yet?
R JMar 18, 2022
did you apply as a waiver?
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
i751 case is ready to schedule interview from last 3 years..then I file n400 last month ... I hope they will call me very soon to combo interview...
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
yes...as waiver
R JMar 18, 2022
Usually, if applied together with your spouse, it usually doesn't take that long; however, applying as a waiver always takes longer than usual. they will approve your i751 first in order to approve your N-400.
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
yes I know that.... sometime they do combo interviews
R JMar 18, 2022
Because I applied together with my spouse and it took me almost 22 months because of covid situation.
R JMar 18, 2022
They can do a combo, no question, but keep in mind that it's not guaranteed. It's up to their discretion.
R JMar 18, 2022
Sometimes they will take your N-400 interview and hold you up because your i751 is not approved. I heard about these cases too.
R JMar 18, 2022
but stay positive and hope for the best!
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
I'm waiting for i751 interview as my priority...because I'm waiting for last 38 months... I got separated from my spouse and then I file i751 waiver... not remarried yet... not travel to back home so far... I feel my life stuck on same place.
R JMar 18, 2022
Yeah, I can understand your situation, and it's not easy to handle this where uncertainty exists.
R JMar 18, 2022
but you know you will cross this face
R JMar 18, 2022
just be positive as much as you can.
R JMar 18, 2022
and pray to the God!!
R JMar 18, 2022
everything will be fine with you
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
yes... thank you for your kind information and wishes...God bless you dear
R JMar 18, 2022

R JMar 18, 2022
no worries. I wish you all the best!!
Abc SinghMar 18, 2022
yes I have all the evidence... proving marriage is bona fide
R JMar 18, 2022
good, they basically check everything, your pictures, joint membership, joint utility bills, lease document, joint checking & saving accounts, joint tax returns, most recent family pictures, joint car ownership, joint healthcare plan, joint life insurance, these are substantial documents where they focus.
R JMar 18, 2022
Since you applied for a waiver, they will be more strict towards your case.
R JMar 18, 2022
because they asked our complete binder multiple times and I applied together, so I am telling you that based on my experience.
R JMar 18, 2022
