local social security office says that they don’t communicate with DHS about SSN
My wife just had her I-765 approved the other day, so I called our local social security office to make sure that DHS sent over the request. She said that does not not happen and I would have to go in person with my wife and our EAD card to apply for it. She was adement that there is no other way to apply, and whatever the I-765 form says does not matter. I was under the impression that if we checked the box on I-765 they would apply for her. is this wrong? Similar experiences?

that happened to my husband too, bring this flyer https://www.ssa.gov/ssnvisa/ebe.html if they still dont have him on their system, just apply, fill out SS-5 https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ss-5.pdf and visit SSA office with Ead, ID, unexpired Passport. it will take 2-3 weeks.

No, some people in Social security do not understand the process. My EAD was approved and when though I had my SSN years ago I got SSN card in mail with same number tho.
