letter on the way with no update on case status
Good morning, Quick question guys, I submitted a RFIE two weeks ago (taxes for 2020) and today I’m seeing a letter coming from NBC (usps scan and upload what I receive in my mailbox). There’s no update on USCIS online. Do you have any idea what it could be? biometrics? Thank you!

It could be a biometrics appointment or medical deficiency notice if you did not submitted it with the package. What is your PD?

Morning Veronika! I didn’t submit yet my i-693 since my attorney told me not to do it right away. my PD is 02/27/2021

Then I am guessing that it will be the I-693 deficiency notice. You can actually kind of see it from the USPS scan- if there is a vertical line visible in the window with the address, then it can be biometrics. If it looks like the address is on paper without any lines then it will be most likely the deficiency notice - hope that it make sense.

you’re really good ahah! there’s no lines on it. let’s see then!

My PD is November 16 and I only received the I-693 deficiency notice. When I saw the mail coming with the USPS informed delivery and was trying to figure out what it is before I will be able to open it in the evening. That is when I found somewhere interesting post online with all the pictures of envelopes from USCIS and the deficiency notice is on regular white paper without any lines compare to the biometric appointment which is on the same paper as the NOA1 with all the squares and boxes- for that reason you can usually see the vertical line on the left next to your address on the envelope. I am waiting for the bio envelope already almost 7 months:-(

you’re an investigator 🕵️‍♀️ lol yes we need to be really patient in general. my work visa ends in September and it starts to stress me out not knowing if I’ll be able to keep my job I love.

I am unfortunately in the same situation. My J1 visa ended at the end of April and since then I cannot work. Hope that we will get the EAD soon! Good luck.
John SmithJun 4, 2021
Yes! Good luck to you as well? I don’t know what kind of visa it is, couldn’t ask for an expedite at this point?

updates: it was just a I-693 deficiency notice with no actions required for now. would have to bring it to the interview if any or otherwise I should receive a RFE if no interview required

should I start planning an appointment with a doctor though? is it valid two years?
John SmithJun 4, 2021
my understanding is no more than 60 days before you file or when the doctor signs the form it’s valid 2 years?

There is a big debate over this. Based on my opinion and also my lawyer opinion, the medical is valid for 2 years even without submission to USCIS as long the medical was done after your AOS was submitted. If you will read the official USCIS instructions, the 60 days validity applies only before the AOS submission- this mean that you cannot have medical older than 60 days for the AOS submission. My lawyer told me to do medical as soon as possible and don't wait for the appointment letter. However, there is pretty big group of people (even lawyers) which will tell you that medical is expeiring 60 days after the doctor signed it and you have to wait for the appointment letter. You should decide based on what makes you feel the most comfortable. I will also recommend to read the official USCIS source to have your own opinion before other people influence you.

yes I got the same feeling and answer from the immigration agents (lvl 1s ?) that it’s valid for 2 years from the day the doctor signs the paperwork. so I’m planning on doing it next week and be done with that extra work.

I agree. I took the same approach.
