length of stay on advance parole
Hi, i traveled to my home country because my dad had to undergo a major surgery and i am his only carer being the only son. So i spent about 4 months already. Now the flight i am choosing has multiple airlines including Kenya and Pakistan international airlines. I have two questions: What to do if airline doesn't recognize AP? What to expect at JFK Airport customs because of length of the travel? (my AP expiry is one year)

@Aafaq Ahmed I traveled on AP with United from Cape Town, South Africa and I found check in staff were not familiar with the AP at all. I’d plan for extra time wherever possible because you’ll likely end up having to explain the document to multiple people.

I was away for a short time but also to see a sick parent so I had some evidence with me to prove the reason for travel in case they asked.

From your post I’m not sure whether your AP has already expired or whether you’ve used 4 months out of the 1 year validity (in other words, the document is still valid). If expired, I’d say this is a problem and you’d need to contact a lawyer to discuss options.

Thanks @Angry Lion. What did the FIA immigration ask? Do they create an issue on this? They are corrupt to the core and try to blackmail you into giving some ransom

@shenni law why do you say so? My document is valid until Jan 25 and i am going back next month. What you think is critical here for me to know? Thanks

well the reason fory first respond is because AP is for temporary short emergency trips not to stay out of the country for lengthy periods but am sorry if my first respond sounded awful.

@shenni law no it wasn't awful at all. Don't be. I am just trying to understand it from your perspective. So what if i had to be a carer of my dad for months and on? My lawyer tells me i ll be fine, i just need to return before it expires in Jan 25. Something tells me living 4 months away might still cause the problem upon returning and that i should be prepared
