Is it safe to travel out of the US using advance parole ?
Hello ,
Has anyone travelled out of the US while their i485 is pending ? Did you have issues at the port of entry ? I have an emergency back home and I need to travel as soon as possible . Has anyone traveled abroad this year with advance parole and had no issues coming back into the US ? please narrate your experience .
Thank you .

it is safe. I spent 2 weeks out the country on advanced parole. When I return I was asked a few questions to confirm my identity and that’s all.

it is safe. you are going to be taken to the second review to verify your identity but that’s it

I just drove back from Canada on AP. I was expecting to go to secondary but the border agent just waved me through

I think for some people is smoother than for others, also some countries but as long as you don’t have criminal record it would be fine to travel with advance parole

I think the other recommendation I’ve heard online is to ensure you’ve never overstayed your visa at any point, otherwise it may cause issues

@kay p you are wrong that’s not true. AP is safe even you overstay

I am currently working in US on J-1 status. If I travel out of country and come back with AP, will I lose my J-1 status? Will it cause any problems with employer? maybe anyone had similar experience

thank you everyone. For those that travelled , did they ask for any document that shows proof of your emergency trip or what exactly did they ask so I can prepare ?

all u need to show is your advance parole. they may ask what was the the purpose of trip but no proof is required.

so Emergency AP is safe even if you overstayed your visa? I got my AP today but I overstayed my visa by 1 year when Corona happened, anybody had the same situation?

@Jp Bronkhorst, how was your experience at Port of entry using your emergency AP? I'm coming in this week to the US using same and just want to be prepared. Thanks

@ PJ to be honest I never left , I was too afraid, after Emergency AP was approved, I received a notice saying that if I overstayed my visa it is up to DHS to decide if I get to be allowed back in or not, so I didn't leave , but luckily i received a date for my GC interview
