@Alo Liz What Visa did you come with? If you are in the US illigeally (out of status with an expired visa), you will not be able to adjust status. There are waivers for unlawful presence but they are hard to get. There are exceptions to overstays for relatives of US citizens. I am just assuming things as I don’t know the visa you entered with. As far as biometrics, it can take some time but they are likely looking at your history first to see what biometrics are on file already. I wish you the best.
