@asking about What country are you from? Your country might be amongst the countries banned
Eva divaJan 17, 2026
@Rocco Forté it doesn’t apply for AOS cases. which office was it?
Rocco FortéJan 17, 2026
@Eva diva I personally know five people that have had their oath ceremonies or interviews canceled since the proclamation was issued. How do you explain that?

interview was intially set to oklahoma. my country is in 75 list but it shouldnt be applied for Aos right?
Rocco FortéJan 17, 2026
@asking about There’s your reason. I had a very heated argument with someone on this platform last night on this same matter. They were claiming that the ban doesn’t impact AOS but here is a clear example that it does. I think you just have to wait till they switch the lights back on. it’s sad, what is going, very sad.

@asking about I would give them a call. State Department clarified that it applies to consular processes. They even said that they will continue to conduct interviews but visas will not be issued. Also, it goes into effect on Jan 21. USCIS is anyway checking public charge when doing AOS Immigrant Visa Processing Updates for Nationalities at High Risk of Public Benefits Usage Last Updated: January 14, 2026 President Trump has made clear that immigrants must be financially self-sufficient and not be a financial burden to Americans. The Department of State is undergoing a full review of all policies, regulations, and guidance to ensure that immigrants from these high-risk countries do not utilize welfare in the United States or become a public charge. Effective January 21, 2026, the Department of State is pausing all visa issuances to immigrant visa applicants who are nationals of the following countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Burma, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Colombia, Cote d’Ivoire, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, The Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyz Republic, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Republic of the Congo, Russia, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, and Yemen Frequently Asked Questions What happens to my immigrant visa interview appointment? Immigrant visa applicants who are nationals of affected countries may submit visa applications and attend interviews, and the Department will continue to schedule applicants for appointments, but no immigrant visas will be issued to these nationals during this pause.

According to the cable, exceptions include dual nationals with a valid passport for a country not on the list or if the applicant is able to demonstrate their travel would service an “America First” national interest. If a visa has already been approved but the visa has not been printed the consular officer “must refuse the case”.

The ban is non affecting AOS, there’s also lawyers on YouTube explaining this. It is affecting unfortunately consular processing as US Embassies in each of those countries stopped issuing immigrant visas.
Rocco FortéJan 18, 2026
Somehow, some way, @asking about who happens to be from a country listed on the ban has got interview canceled. But yea AOS isn’t affected lol
