You will receive a welcome letter from NVC. It can take anywhere from 15-90 days. The letter is a sign that your case has been sent to your embassy. Most embassies don’t send a letter.
Once you receive the letter from NVC, you can start the actual process: do the DS-160, pay the fiancé visa, schedule your interview, and schedule your medical exam (1 week before the interview).

At this stage, it is important to know that each embassy has different steps. I would suggest joining a group specific to Lagos embassy. I am part of a group and while they are majority spouses, there are some K1s who are waiting on interviews. If you have FB, then you can join to see more timeline info.
I do know that the Nigerian embassy does send a welcome letter with instructions. I would also suggest that you begin filling out the DS160 and gathering necessary documents. It is a lengthy form and you can start it and save it without submitting.
