so I talk to my lawyer and they said it could happen. and i601 is not only for waiving criminal record. it is to waiver fraud, misrepresentation aswell. so make sure you guys are not on misrepresentation. if so they may ask for i601. and we can't file i601 by staying inside US. It's all depends up on the interviewer they may ask or not... best of luck all

@N Vj Fraud and misrepresentation are crime if you have been caught. If not then you don't need the i-601. Also, it serves as a waiver of inadmissibility for certain criminal acts. Last September I went to El Salvador, after coming, I advised by my attorney to do AOS. On November 10 USCIS received my packet and on January 8th my combo card was approved. Now I'm just waiting for my GC.
