After you pay your annual fee, you should get a letter from USCIS stating that you have paid fee and it should go back to your next step is an interview. however there is a difference for those who filed I589 online. Mine was sent by mail so I got letter from USCIS about annual fee

@Sarah nahhh If you have a lawyer, maybe is the best thing to contact him. You have proof that you paid, bank statement, etc?
Sarah nahhhNov 11, 2025

@Sarah nahhh That was showing to me after payment was processed, and I got letter two weeks later. It looks like your payment is processed, but to make sure maybe you should check with lawyer or Emma.

aaf is very confusing (don’t worry at all). — this is not a legal advice. The annual asylum fee (AAF) is currently paused due to a judge’s order as of October 30, 2025, following a lawsuit by asylum applicants. This means that, for now, asylum seekers are not required to pay the AAF. However, this pause is only temporary. The judge may allow the government to resume charging the fee in the future if certain issues are resolved with the collection process. If you receive a notice asking for the fee, it may have been generated before the pause or by mistake, and you are not currently required to pay it until further notice from USCIS or the courts. only USCIS and judge will fix that. if they resume definitively your status will also be changed. follow-up on aaf update. I decided to wait some update before paying. they asked me to pay before a week and I see that aaf is paused by Maryland judge
